What is Law?

Answer the following questions in 2 to 3 sentences. (5 points each)

1. What is law? Why do we need to know the law?

ANSWER: Law is a rule of conduct and was promulgated by legitimate authority. We need to
know the law in order for us to be aware of one’s right. It will also help us abide with the law and
not excuse ourselves for not following the law.

2. Give 3 examples of law related to the tourism and hospitality industry and write a
one-sentence description for each.

ANSWER:

1. According to Ronaldo A. Kaiser (Travel and Tourism Law, 1994), the laws governing
tourism - It is legal to travel. The traveler must be accommodated in a safe and suitable
manner.
2. Act of 1883 on Explosive Substances - The primary law governing offenses involving
causing explosions or possessing explosives with the purpose to endanger life or
seriously harm property.
3. Section 28 of the Fire Services Act 1988 - states that every designated premise
including hotels shall require a fire certificate which are to be renewed annually.

4. As a future tourism and hospitality professional, what are the advantages of knowing the
different laws in the industry?

ANSWER: As a future tourism and hospitality professional, my advantages of knowing the


different laws in the industry are; first, protect myself and secure justice if ever my life be in
danger. Also I can spread awareness to my friends and family or other people if ever that they
are not following a certain law.
