I understand that good listening skills in English are crucial for becoming proficient in the language and

improving my abilities, I have created a personal plan for the upcoming courses at the English
Department, Hanoi University.

Firstly, setting clear and achievable goals is the foundation of any language improvement plan. It means
defining what to achieve with English listening skills such as understanding English movies, news,
conversations or academic conferences. Having clear goals not only helps me stay motivated and
focused on the efforts but also keeps myself on a track.

Secondly, I will put myself surrounded with English as much as possible. In this case, I want to create an
English environment to learn the language naturally and efficiently. One way to get more exposure is to
watch movies, television shows in English or listen to English podcasts, audiobooks. Additionally I can
also read English newspapers, magazines and books. This is a great way to build up vocabulary and
improve my reading comprehension, which can transfer to my listening skills.

Another key point is regular practice since consistency is critical for skill improvement. First, I will set a
specific time for my listening practice, ranging from 30 to 60 minutes to make sure that I make listening
practice as a daily habit. I also select the material that aligns with my interest so in this case, I’m more
likely to keep up with my practice routine.

Morover, diversifying the type of content that I listen to also plays an important role. I will actively seek
out content featuring various English accents, including American, British, Australian and others. With
this kind of exposure will help me become more comfortable with diverse pronunciations and speech
patterns. Also exploring a wide range of topic will boaden my vocabulary such as news, documentaries,…
Last but not least I will gradually start with slower-paced materials to faster-paced conversatins in order
to train my ears to adapt to different rates.
