Analysis of Steady State Heat Conduction through

Tapered Section

It is very difficult to analyze and calculate the thermal behavior of tapered section material. The
thermal behavior involves the study of heat transfer rate and heat flux. The tapered section has
importance as support or flanges in boilers, chimneys at the lower end.It is one of the most
fundamental modes of heat transfer which occurs due to microscopic collision of particles and
movement of electrons with in a body also known to be as internal energy. It is also called as
diffusion. There are two modes of heat transfer steady and unsteady state. In case of steady
state heat transfer, the temperature within the system does not change with time and
temperature,it is a function of space coordinates only, but it is independent of time. The
variations of Heat flux at different nodes are shown below and its variation with respect to
different axis and thickness can be explained.

2. Research on Unsteady State Heat Conduction in Slab &

Cylinder

This paper mainly concerned with the analytical solution of unsteady state one dimensional heat
conduction problem. In this report as a base, improved lumped parameter model is taken to find
the variation in temperature field in a slab and cylinder type geometry. We have tried to analyze
the heat conduction behavior for both Cartesian and cylindrical geometry. Based on the
previous analysis closed form solution for temperature, Biot number (B), heat source parameter
(Q), and time for both slab and tube has been obtained. We have considered a variety of
temperature profiles to see their effect on the solution. Based on the analysis a proposed Biot
number has been suggested, which is independent of geometry of the problem. An improved
lumped parameter model is applied to the Unsteady heat conduction in a long slab and long
cylinder. Polynomial approximation method is used to predict the transient distribution
temperature of the slab and tube geometry.

3. Comparative study on steady and unsteady heat transfer

analysis of a spherical element using air/water mist two-
phase flow

two approaches to investigating the process cooling of a heated sphere were performed using air as
well as air/water mist two-phase flow. Steady-state and unsteady heat transfer analysis were
compared in the terms of the aver-age surface temperature and heat transfer rate between the
sphere surfaces and the cooling fluid. The unsteady surface temperature acquired by implanted
thermocouples at the sphere center was used as reference data to estimate the surface temperature
profile during air/water mist cooling process. An experimental investigation was performed to predict
the thermal behavior of a sphere cooling process with steady and unsteady-state heat transfer
conditions. The lumped capacitance model (LCM) was adopted with an aim to investigate the
average heat transfer coefficient (Nu) of the sphere cooling by using air as well as air/water mist
two-phase flow.

4.Steady State Heat Conduction in Cylinders With Multiple

Continuous Line Heat Sources

This paper presents a mathematical analysis of steady state heat conduction in a cylinder,
consisting of one or two isotropic materials disposed in concentric cylindrical volumes around
title axis, heat by one or more continuous line heat sources parallel to the axis. The analysis
-considers both cylinders of infinite length , and cylinders of finite length subject to longitudinal
heat flows arising from end conditions. The length of the line heat sources equa]s Lbe
length of the cylinder.analysis confirms that for steady radial heat flow in angularly isotropic
infinitely
long circular cylinders, the temperature at the axis is equal to the average temperature Over any
coaxial cylindrical surface which does not envelop a heat source.
