The document provides a checklist for structural design with items to check for structural layout, analysis and design, preparation of detailed drawings, and providing a bill of quantities. It includes checks for proper structural layout based on architectural drawings, use of appropriate design parameters and software, accurate structural analysis, detailed drawings of all structural elements, and taking off quantities from drawings to estimate total project cost. The checklist aims to ensure students follow proper procedures and considerations for integrated structural design work.

1) Provide structural layout plan based on architectural drawing obtained.
Item Action (√) or (X) 1 Clearly understand the drawing and detailing provided by the architect. 2 Provide structural layout plans that meet the standards of practice by industry/engineering consultants. 3 The grid marks arrangement follows as proposed by the architect. 4 The grid marks not overlapping with each other on the structure layout plan. 5 Providing a cut section for the purpose of detailing slab reinforcement. 6 Provide appropriate beam arrangement by considering the width of the slab (slab not too big/small, no L-shaped slab). 7 Considering the change in beam depth after there is a drop or difference in the building floor level. 8 The orientation of a rectangular column takes into account the bending moment requirements of the column. 9 The columns are provided at the critical and necessary locations. 10 The structural layout plan is displayed in the appropriate scale in the project report and makes it easy for the lecturer to verify. 11 The structural layout plan drawing is displayed (beamlines) in black and white colour.
2) Structural analysis and design (software & manual)
Item Action (√) or (X) 1 Use appropriate design parameters and check against the default values provided in the computer software (minimum/maximum bar size, concrete cover, concrete strength, reinforcement and etc). 2 Able to select the right type of beam for manual analysis and design (simply supported and continuous beams). 3 Be able to distinguish between simply supported and restrained slabs. 4 Draw the bending moment diagram for a continuous beam correctly. 5 The selection of the size of the structural elements corresponds to the structural requirements (beams, columns, and slab thickness). 6 Students can identify the types of bars H, T, Y, and R based on the characteristic strength of the bars. 7 Do not provide 1 bar reinforcement on the beam structure. Usage Examples 1H25, 1H16. Provide at least 2 bars and above. 8 Symmetrically provide reinforcement in the column structure on both z-axis and y-axis. 9 Clearly understand staircase layout and support conditions. 10 Perform the loading and structural analysis of the staircase and consider the load distribution from the staircase to the beam manually then, input the load of the staircase on the beam during the software application. 11 Perform structural analysis using the moment distribution method instead of using the simplified method (formula) for the continuous beam. 12 Able to identify the main beam and secondary beam and take into account the point load transfer from the secondary beam when performing beam structure analysis 13 Beam design as a flanged beam through Esteem software and manual calculations. 14 Review the load and structure analysis results issued by the software. 15 Make a design verification between design results produced by software and manual calculation. The differences are at a minimum percentage.
3) Preparation of detailed drawings of structural elements
Item Action (√) or (X) 1 Detail drawings are arranged in an orderly manner according to the arrangement of structural elements. 2 Provide detailed drawings of the overall structural elements. Not just selected elements. 3 Review and make amendments to detail drawings produced by the software, especially beam details. 4 Provide slab details in the cut section view instead of providing slab details in the plan view. 5 The column schedule is updated or summarized according to the type of column that has the same size and amount of reinforcement. 6 The stair reinforcement details are properly provided along with other detail drawings not just drawn manually after the stair design. 7 Provide intermediate beam reinforcement details in the stair section.
4) Providing taking off and bill of quantity
Item Action (√) or (X) 1 Presenting the detailed taking-off calculation process, not just showing a summary. 2 The taking-off calculation is based on the current price rate schedule issued by the Public Work Department (JKR) of Malaysia. 3 The total amount of cost estimated is reasonable to the total cost of the actual project.
