Energy consumption: Manufacturing often requires a lot of energy, which can come from non-renewable sources like
coal or natural gas. This can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

Waste generation: Manufacturing can generate a lot of waste, including hazardous materials that can harm the
environment and human health.
Water usage: Some manufacturing processes require a lot of water, which can deplete local water resources and harm
aquatic ecosystems.

Air pollution: Manufacturing can release pollutants into the air, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and
particulate matter, which can harm human health and contribute to climate change.

Resource depletion: Manufacturing often relies on the extraction of natural resources, which can lead to the depletion
of those resources over time.

To mitigate these impacts, manufacturing companies can adopt sustainable practices like using renewable energy
sources, reducing waste and water usage, controlling air pollution, and implementing recycling programs.

Site Work Operation Project - Layout of a Building

STEPS IN SETTING OUT A BUILDING

1. We set out the front of the building line with pegs and marks at the required distances.

2. We placed the buildings square so that the front line touches one side of the square

right through its lengths.

3. We stretched a line from the corner pegs so that it is parallel to the second side of the

square and established the third peg. We ensured the angle 90 is obtained
With the help of a tape measure, we marked out the length and width of the proposed building

4. Transferring the builders square to the remaining operational a simple rectangular

building can be set out

5. After establishing the four corner pegs, profile boards were erected in the same way

as described above.

6. First the corners of the building were marked and then the lengths of the sides were

checked by diagonal measurements.

7. The center lines of the trenches were marked with the help of profiles, sighting rails,

strings and pegs.

8. The off-sets were measured from center lines and the frontage lines were placed in

their correct position relative to local requirements.

9. The position of cross walls was measured along the main walls and was squared from

these wails. While the total width of trenches was carefully outlined.

HOW SQAURNESS WAS ENSURED

Getting your foundation layout square and to the correct dimensions is key to building a small

building. My classmates and I had to ensure that we had all the layout square and also that all of
our dimensions were correct. Our class learned two methods during various classes. The first

method is known as the "3:4:5 Triangle Method" and the second is called the "Diagonal

Method." Both are equally accurate as they use the power of the rules of trigonometry in order to

achieve squareness which is key to achieving a successful well-fitting project. Our class agreed

on using the Diagonal method.

WHAT WE DID?

The "Diagonal Method" of layout for building a small building shown in the diagram below. To

do this method you only measure the opposing diagonal corners until you get them the same

distance apart. Once the diagonal lines are equal you will have a perfect square. This method will

ensure that your dimensions are correct and square.

2x4 where cut in half, to get 4 table legs.

The four legs where squared and sanded for smooth handling.
1x8 where cut to get 4 peace to connect the legs of the table.
They where also sanded off for a smoother handling.
Mortise and Tenon joints was selected to connect the legs of the table.
A mortise gage was used to mark of where the joints were going to be.
The drill press was used to roughly drill out the joints.
A chizzle was used to then neatly and accurately dig out the mortise joints.
The tenon was mark 1 inch off each side and cut.
The mortise and tenon joints were tested and they fited perfectly.
The joints were make with letters A,B,C,E,F, etc.. to were they fit.
the (side pease) the rail with A,B on the end was glued in between the legs with side marked A,B.
All the joints where then glued and clamped accordingly.
Small nails where driven into the joints to each the joints inplace.
After 10-15 minutes the clamp was removed and the process was repeated on the next side.
INCOMPLETE
The table was then squared and two supports were nailed to the top to each it in place.
