Communication & Arising issues

We have a Whatsapp group where all announcements, questions and issues are addressed all in

a growing community. Many of our participants even train together outside of swim brothers!

To join our Swim Brothers whatsapp group, please text Omar on 0405 464 646 or Feroz on 0413
124 474.

Goals of the program
There are three group levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced. The following are the
goals of each group at the conclusion of the 8-week program and will need to be achieved to
progress onto the following group.

Beginner Group – To swim 25m with basic form.

Intermediate Group – To swim 200m with good form under 5 minutes

Advanced/Squad group – To swim 400m+ with good form under 9 minutes

Expectations of Participants
While our program has been great in helping our participants improve their technique and
increase their distance in the water – we expect you to put some effort outside of class to
guarantee achieving the above goals.

This is especially important since people progress at different rates. While some people may
achieve these goals without swimming outside of class, it is best to swim more often to improve
your technique and comfortability in the water. The bottom line is – swimming once a week is
not sufficient for producing good results.

We pride ourselves in cultivating a community of brotherhood where participants often liase

with each other and plan to swim throughout the week to stay motivated. Swim Brothers may
often aid in helping put these together – although it is not part of the program.
Swim Brothers beach program
The beach program is a one-day event held at North Cronulla or Wanda beach during the
warmer months. It is FREE and inclusive of being a part of the swim brothers’ program.

It is a program delivered in collaboration with Surf Lifesaving NSW to teach basic ocean safety
messages and skills including rip identification and watching mock rescues. There will also be an
opportunity to play around with various rescue boards and jump in the water for a swim. We
will be in touch with you when your next beach program is.

Pathways and opportunities

At the conclusion of the Advanced group, participants may opt to continue swimming as part of our
squad group to stay active and improve swimming in general.

However, these groups lead to other pathways and opportunities. We have collaborated with various
organisations to be able to offer these specifically to our participants in a culturally and religious
sensitive way. The below is an outline of what some of these opportunities are:

1) Surf Safety Certificate

The surf safety certificate is a two-day course held across two weekends, where participants are
introduced to the basics of surf rescue skills. This includes how to rescue both conscious and
unconscious patients with the use of various flotation devices, how to identify rips and how to revive
unconscious patients through CPR training.

This has a pre-requisite of being able to swim 150m and float for 3 minutes on your back.

2) Bronze Medallion
The bronze medallion is an Australian recognised course to become a lifeguard. It is an intense course
that spans over 8-12 weeks and dives deep into various surf rescue skills, survival skills, radio
communication, mock rescues and first aid skills.

This has a pre-requisite of being able to swim 400m in under 9 minutes.

3) Teaching with Swim Brothers

This is for those who are looking to help make a difference and give back to the community in a paid
teaching role with swim brothers.

Sourcing Male swim instructors is difficult, so we highly encourage those who are committed, reliable &
have good communication skills to jump on board and help us expand this initiative to different suburbs.

The minimum requirement is to be able to swim 200m and have completed the AUSTSWIM training
course (which we will help organise).
