ASNAU SENATE MEETING #5 OFFICIAL MINUTES Date: October 7th, 2011, 2011 Date of Senate Meeting: October 6th,

2011 Prepared by Makenzie Mastrud Senate Chair Sidney West called the Senate meeting of the 2011-2012 Senate to order at 6:00 P.M. in the Havasupai Room A & B of the University Union. Number on council: 12 Number present: 11

Roll Call The following Senators were not present at the meeting: -Zach Libby Approval of Minutes Motion: Senator Bingham move to approve last weeks minutes from Senate Meeting #4 on September 29th, 2011. Second: Senator Alcorn Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, last weeks Senate Meeting minutes are now approved Call to the Audience None Unfinished Business None New Action Business Motion: Senator Woodhouse move to approve Senate Bill 24-12, Fall Fling Preparations for $6,000 Second: Senator Villa Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, congratulations Fall Fling you are have received your funding for $6,000

Motion: Senator Niemann move to approve Senate Bill 24-13, updating office supplies and furniture costing $4,000 Second: Senator Alcorn Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, congratulations we will now have updated supplies and furniture in the office Motion: Senator Niemann move to approve item c, OA: Cardinal Key Second: Senator Buchta Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, congratulations, Cardinal Key your OA has been approved and you have received your funding for $450 Motion: Senator Buchta move to open items d and e, Club Recognition for Flagstaff Hitman and NAU Motorsports, for approval Second: Senator Lee Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, congratulations Flagstaff Hitmen and NAU Motorsports you are now officially clubs on campus Executive report a. President- Blaise Caudill - Had a meeting with President Haeger -discussed disparity issues, we received three million less dollars that UofA every year, ASU gets around 58 million less -talked about zero dollar tuition increase, asking him to make sure t hat tuition will not be increased -talked about residence leaders -President Haeger has requested to come speak at next weeks senate meeting - I am also scheduling to talk to construction staff about everything going on on campus -Hosting sustainability meeting after this b. Vice President of Student affairs- Sammy Smart -We have tailgate this Saturday from 12-3pm, Theta Chi has volunteered to work the tailgate to we do not have to, but Fan Fest is going on to you should all go -Homecoming is two weekends away, ay one who is not 21 has to work, we might be able to get some volunteers

-We are going to hang up the Lumberyard poster after this to see what it looks like, athletics dislikes the poster- the color and font is not what they wanted but we are going to hang it up and see what it looks like -Snow Jack starts January 24th and will run on Saturday and Sundays -I am talking with parking servies to see if we can get one of the big shuttle buses for Snow Jack that way more students can go -Also let your friends know about Snow Jack, we want to advertise it more so more students take advantage of this program c. Vice President of Academic Affairs- Sidney West -No Senate Meeting on October 20th-due to carnival -Be prepared to work the Fall Fling -I have emailed you all two times about meeting and seeing where everyone is at so please stop in my office tomorrow if you have time -Missing office hours then please call and let Mary Lou know -Posters in your box, hang them up and take extras to hang up around campus -Make sure you have e-mailed all of your clubs -October forum ideas, Sammy has a great one so talk to her if you are in charge of that

d. Chief of Staff- Chloe Olson -next Thursday is the Dedique Banquet at the High Country Conference Center, it is $8 for students Staff Reports A. ASA- Chelsea Byers, Wes Enns, Jenn Hancock - C.A.S.T.L.E is coming let us know if you want to come and represent ASNAU -This Saturday is Occupy Flagstaff, this is national event so come see what it is all about -We need people to help with voter registation so let us know if you can -Moved total cost awarness week to next week because of tableing issues B. Public Relations- Julia Lesniak - Making carnival posters C. Special events- Caitlin Heck, Rachel Rogala

- Parking services is allowing us to use a portion of the parking lot for the carnival D. NSO- Erick Gonzalez, Heather Reeves - Special events crew is making a float for Homecoming -Tonight we are having our first retreat in the office Committee Reports A. Appropriations: None B. Legislative:Elections code is all done, we will give you hard copies after this, also the constitution is fixed and we will give you copies Senator Reports A. Nate Alcorn Working on a bill and possibly an OA for a graphic designer and a bill for NSO t-shirts B. Hal Bingham Working with a enviormental justice class- they want to through a huge forum and have a speaker come C. Anthony Buchta Working on a bill with Matt D. Samantha Cortez Working on a bill with advertising E. Samantha Cross No announcements F. Ryan Lee Working on a bill for the criminology club, attended meeting for teacher evualtions an it was great- they are asking for ASNAUs to increase the percent of students who actually fill out the evualtions G. Zach Libby No announcements H. Annsley Niemann Went to RHA meeting and they have a spot for a senator to be part of their voting at meetings to if you could all take turns goingMondays at 4pm I. Matthew Villa Meet with black student union and they want an ASNAU member at all their meetings J. Gavin Walton No announcements K. Shayla Woodhouse Working on a survey with Gavin regarding technology use in classrooms L. Sally Barnes- Working with a group of girls who are starting a club regarding cancer research Advisor Reports (Rick Brandel and Art Farmer)

Rick Brandel No announcements Art Farmer Gold Axe award deadline is next Friday so nominate any one you think is deserving before then.
