Pronunciation Practice

We can pronounce the final-s at the end of a word in three different ways:

 The -s suffix is pronounced as /s/ after unvoiced sounds like /p/, /t/, /k/, /f/and /θ/: sleeps,
lips, meets, hates, plates, walks, likes, books, laughs, months, etc.

 The -s suffix is pronounced as /z/ after a voiced sound or after a vowel sound: seeds, tells,
names, planes, moves, neighbours, goes, boys, opportunities.

 When the -s suffix appears after sounds like /s/, /z/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, /ʒ/, /dʒ/, we add a vowel

before it and it's pronounced as /ɪz/:boxes, loses, dishes, watches, garages, bridges.
