BE MORE THAN 5% (VOLUME).
IF THE AIRCRAFT IS FAR FROM ITS BASE AND NO DRY NITROGEN IS
AVAILABLE, YOU CAN USE AIR FOR THE SERVICING OF THE TIRES IF:
- THE OXYGEN IN THE TIRES IS NOT MORE THAN 5% (VOLUME)
OR
- MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REMOVE THE AIR FROM THE TIRES
AND INFLATE THEM WITH DRY NITROGEN BEFORE 15 HOURS TIME
SERVICE.
A CHEMICAL REACTION BETWEEN THE OXYGEN IN THE TIRES AND
GASES FROM THE INNER LINER CAN CAUSE A TIRE EXPLOSION.

A. Functional Check of Tire Pressures

NOTE: If there is a large temperature difference between the departure (cold) and the
arrival (hot) airports, the tire pressure at the arrival airport can be higher than
the maximum of the normal operating range. Then, it is necessary to adjust the
tire pressure in these conditions:
- If the aircraft continues in operation in a hot area, and
- If the time necessary to let the temperature of the tire decrease to the
ambient temperature is not sufficient (a tire is cold approximately three
hours after its operation).

(1) For scheduled MPD checks, do the steps that follow:

Do the pressure check of the tires when they are cold and with the aircraft weight
on its wheels.

NOTE: A tire is cold approximately three hours after its last operation. This
time is necessary for the tire temperature to decrease to the ambient
temperature.

(a) To do this, refer to the pressure table in paragraph 4.B. and compare the tire
pressure values with those that you find when you use:
· A GAGE - PRESSURE, TIRE, or
· The wheel-mounted tire-pressure indicators, if installed, or

· The Tire Pressure Indicating System (TPIS), if installed.

1 If you use the TPIS:
a Make sure that circuit breaker 1GV is closed.
b Energize the aircraft electrical circuit (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-
861-002) .
c On the ECAM control panel, push the WHEEL key:
· On the lower ECAM DU, the WHEEL page comes into view and
shows the tire pressures.
(2) For checks of the tire pressure that are not scheduled MPD checks, do the steps
as follow:

NOTE: If possible, do the check when the tires are cold (a tire is cold
approximately three hours after its operation). If it is necessary to do the
check when the tires are hot, make sure that you do not deflate a hot tire.

(a) For cold tires, refer to 4.A.(1).

(b) For hot tires (if you cannot wait that the tire temperature decreases to the
ambient temperature), do the steps that follow:
1 Record the pressure of all the tires on a same landing gear.
Then, record the highest tire pressure.

NOTE: When a tire is hot, its pressure increases.

NOTE: If you do the check when the tires are hot, the pressure must be
higher than the nominal value. The nominal value is the lower
limit of the normal pressure range (given in the pressure table in
paragraph 4.B.).

2 Compare these pressure values between them, and with the pressure
table in paragraph 4.B, then do the steps that follow:
a If all the pressure values are approximately the same and at least
one is higher than the maximum of the normal pressure range:
· Do a check of the pressure when the tires are cold, in a maximum
of three days.
b If all the pressure values are approximately the same, higher than
the minimum of the normal pressure range and less than or equal to
the maximum of the normal pressure range:
· No other steps are necessary.
c If the pressure of a tire is less than 90 percent of the highest
recorded pressure:
· Inflate the tire to the value of the tire with the highest pressure.
· Make an entry in the logbook for this tire and monitor the tire
pressure for 24 hours.
· During the check, if there is an entry in the logbook and if
the pressure decreases again for this tire, replace the tire

NOTE: These pressure values are for tires with the aircraft weight on the wheels.

NOTE: (2):
- If the aircraft rolled with a flat tire, replace the related wheel and the
adjacent wheel.
- If you are sure that the pressure loss occurred while the aircraft was in the
parked configuration (after the aircraft stopped), replace only the tire with
the low pressure.
- If you cannot be sure that the wheels did not turn with the tire deflated, you
must also replace the adjacent wheel.

MPD Task 324227-01-1
MECH. INSP.

A. Inspection of the Brake

(1) With the parking brake on, make sure that the wear indicators are in the limits.

NOTE: It is possible to measure the wear pin length at all brake temperatures
when it is more than 1 mm (0.04 in.). When the length is 1 mm (0.04 in.) or
less, we recommend that you do the check when the brake is cold (brake
temperature less than 60 deg.C (140.00 deg.F)). This will give a more
accurate measurement and prevent the removal or the deactivation of a
serviceable brake unit.

(a) If the heat pack is fully worn, replace the related brake (Ref. AMM TASK 32-
42-27-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-400-001) .

NOTE: When the end of one of the two wear pins touch the machined
surface of the piston housing, then the heat pack is fully worn.

(b) The brake units usually have two wear pins.

If you find a brake unit that does not have the two wear pins:
1 One wear pin is missing:
· The brake is serviceable if the remaining wear pin is in the limits.
2 The two wear pins are missing:
· Do the deactivation of the brake (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-00-040-003) .
(2) For a replacement brake:
· Measure the distance between the end of the wear pin and the machined
surface of the piston housing.
(a) If the replacement brake is not installed with the life extension shim, make
sure that the distance between the:
· End of the wear pin and the machined surface of the piston housing is
between 49.6 mm (1.95 in.) and 50.4 mm (1.98 in.).
1 If the measured distance is not in the limits:
· Replace the applicable brake (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-001)
(Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-400-001) .

NOTE: If the replacement brake is installed with the life extension shim,
the distance between the:
- End of the wear pin and the machined surface of the piston
housing will be less than 49.6 mm (1.95 in.).

(3) For the subsequent flights, make sure that the brake heat packs keep sufficient
wear range in line with the operator's specified wear rate. This will keep the wear
pin length more than the limit until the next scheduled wear check.

NOTE: To make an estimate for the next inspection, a wear rate of 1 mm (0.04
in.) for each 20 FC can be used.
