We are Matter.
We are an innovation company pioneering
technology solutions for capturing, harvesting
and recycling microplastics.

Micropollutants may be miniscule in size, but their impact on

the natural environment is colossal.

Through brilliant design thinking, powerful partners, and an impatience

to make what we do matter, our mission is to stop this pollution at source.

Our products and services.

Providing solutions to address Leading R&D projects to find

microplastic emissions at sustainable methods and
commercial and industrial scale. applications for recycling microfibres.
The problem.
There are 5 trillion particles of microplastic in our
oceans, and 1.5 million tonnes are emitted each
year via three major sources:

Textiles
700,000 microfibres are released in each domestic
wash cycle.

Tyres
An average car tyre releases over 1kg of microplastic
in its lifetime.

City dust
Wastewater treatment plants filter to 6mm, larger than
all microplastics.

Microplastics are too small to be captured by normal filters and end

up in the water cycle and food chain, with harmful effects.

Adam Root – CEO & Founder.

On a mission to change our relationship with
water and the environment, Adam set-up Matter
to provide solutions to the colossal challenge of
microplastic pollution.

A trained mechanical engineer and keen scuba diver, Adam worked

on gas turbines at GE before moving to Dyson, where he worked in
New Product Innovation. He was awarded Innovate UK’s Innovator of the
Year in 2018 and 2019 and represented the UK at the G7 Summit in Canada.
