LGBTQ2SIA Instructional Materials Examples
This document outlines LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusive instructional materials examples for districts to
consider when reviewing materials for adoption or for supplemental use, across all content areas. The
statewide LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Plan, which was adopted by the Oregon State Board of
Education, recommends an Inclusive Curriculum objective that asserts, “students experience
LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusive, affirming, and culturally sustaining curriculum and pedagogy across grades
and subjects” (Student Success Plan Domain 2, Objective 2, Strategy 1, Action 1a-b). To learn more

Teach Rock, The Rise of Disco 6-12 Lessons and media for exploring the rise of Disco in

Multnomah County Library, Varies Booklists curated by the Multnomah County Library
Welcoming Schools, K-12 Welcoming Schools book lists are designed to help
Elementary, Secondary, and Educator educators create classrooms, libraries and schools
Educator & Caregivers booklists that are affirming of LGBTQ2SIA+ students,
families and staff with high quality literature.
National Council of Teachers in Educator Guidelines for Affirming Gender Diversity through
English (NCTE), Guidelines for ELA Curriculum and Pedagogy (2020) provides a
Affirming Gender Diversity rationale, recommendations, and resources for the

Oregon Department of K-12 The Oregon Open Learning page on the global OER
Education Oregon Open Commons provides free and adaptable resources
Learning, Sex Ed Open created by local Oregon educators. The Sex Ed
Multnomah County Health K–8 The Multnomah County Health Department curated
Department, Book and a list of books for early childhood, which includes
Resource List - Early Childhood stories about healthy sexuality, friendships, consent,
Sexuality Education and LGBTQ2SIA+ families.
GLSEN, Ready, Set, Respect! K-5 GLSEN developed Ready, Set, Respect! to provide
GLSEN’s Elementary School tools to support elementary educators with these
Toolkit efforts. The lessons focus on name-calling, bullying
and bias, LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusive family diversity and
gender roles and diversity and are designed to be
used as either stand-alone lessons or as part of a
school-wide anti-bias or bullying prevention program.
It Gets Better Project, Queer Kid K-5 The It Gets Better Project hosts an EduGuide with 9
Stuff EduGuide (lessons and short lessons, each with an accompanying YouTube
videos) video from the Queer Kid Stuff YouTube channel
dedicated to LGBTQ+ kids.
Every Body Curious, Video 3-7 Every Body Curious is an entertaining and
Series including LGBTQ2SIA+ educational YouTube series about sexuality and
Identities healthy relationships for youth (and their parents!),
ages 9-12. Features real kids asking questions, and
episodes focusing on LGBTQ2SIA+ identities.
AMAZE Videos, Gender Identity 5-12 AMAZE provides age-appropriate animated videos
and Sexual Orientation for young adolescents about identity, sexuality,
bodies, and relationships.
Advocates for Youth, Rights, K-12 Free, open-source K-12 Comprehensive Sexuality
Respect, Responsibility (3Rs) Education Curriculum aligned to National Sexuality
and Supplemental Lessons Education Standards, including intersectional
lessons on respecting differences, gender identity
and expression, sexual orientation, bullying
prevention, and more. 2021 supplemental lessons
include transgender-specific puberty information and
lessons on racial justice.

The Oregon Historical Society, Varies The Gay and Lesbian Archives of the Pacific
Gay and Lesbian Archives of Northwest (GLAPN) was established in Portland,
the Pacific Northwest Oral Oregon, by Tom Cook in the early 1990s. Since then
Histories & Collection the organization has collected archival materials and
oral histories from organizations and individuals
active in lesbian and gay issues in the Portland area
and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Many of these
oral histories were gathered by Portland State
University students, from the late 90s to present.

of community responses to anti-gay ballot measures
that had plagued Oregon for more than 20 years.

ONE Archives, Lesson Plans 6-12 The ONE Archives Foundation has partnered with
the UCLA History-Geography Project to host
Professional Learning Symposiums and provide
LGBTQ2SIA+ history lesson plans for educators at
no cost. The lesson plans comply with California’s
FAIR Education Act, which requires California K–12
schools to integrate fair, accurate, inclusive and
respectful representations of the LGBTQ2SIA+
community and people with disabilities into their
social studies and history classes.
