RHYTHM
❖ it is the lifeblood of music. Also known as
“the heart of music”
❖It is the flow or movement of music
through time.
❖Time Signature

MELODY
❖It is the tune of music
❖consists of two interacting elements which
are pitch and duration.

• pitch - degree of highness or lowness of a


tone
• duration – length of time a note has played.
TEXTURE
❖used to describe the overall quality of the
sound of piece.
❖Types of texture : monophonic,
homophonic, polyphonic,
heterophonic
DYNAMICS
❖refers to the loudness or softness of a
sound.
❖it indicates the level of intensity the music
has played.
TEMPO
❖it refers to the pace or rate of speed of the
rhythm of a composition.
TIMBRE
❖it refers to the quality of a sound the
distinguishes one sound from another.
❖Vocal timbre varies from person to person.

❖refers to the overall plan, arrangement, and

Vocal Music
•refers to the performance of one or
more singers, with or without
accompaniment to focus on the
singing.
•It features sung word called lyrics.
Folk song
•traditional and collective music of
the town, province or countries
that uses simple melodies and
harmonies.
•it is a music which is handed orally
from generation to generation.
Folk song
•it is developed among sophisticated
people, together with artless
poems about phases of everyday
life.
•for us Filipino’s, it marks from our
birth until burial or death.

SECULAR
MUSIC
Secular Music
• Non-religious music
• Means “being separated from religion”
• Words are so important part of secular music so
people can sing songs together for entertainment
and celebration.
• It was strongly influenced by Spaniards.
Harana
• A traditional Filipino serenade sung by a man to
show his love for a woman.
• Usually accompanied by a guitar and performed
outside the woman’s house.
Characteristics
• Talks to a cheerful commitment to love
• Usually accompanied by stringed instruments.

Balitaw

• It is a debate or a dialogue song in which a woman


and a man compete to see who is better at
improvising romantic verses.
Kumintang
• It is a popular wedding song in Batangas and in the
town of Bulacan.
• It is considered as a Tagalog National chant about
love and courtship.
• Sometimes, it is known as a war song.

• Is an ensemble of string instrument
with a pick.
• The word rondalla came from the
Spanish word “ronda” which means
“serenade”
• Sometimes it is played with percussion
instrument like drums and marimba.

• 14-stringed pear-shaped lute
with a round sound hole.
• Plays main melody in
rondalla

• 14-stringed pear-shaped lute
with a f-shaped sound hole.

• Plays the alto part or counter

Octavina
• 14-stringed lute, shaped like
a small guitar
