DETENTION AND CORRECTIONAL


OCCUPANCIES
SECTION 10.2.13.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
 Detention and correctional facilities will include those currently in use for instances such as rehabilitation
facilities, detention facilities, network private facilities, substance abuse or recovery facilities, and other
comparable facilities where residents are confined or housed under some level of restriction or security.
 The resident user category is split into groups for the purposes of applying this division's life safety
criteria.The maximum number of persons anticipated to occupy any level will be the occupant load, provided
that there is at least one (1) person for every eleven and one-tenth square meters (11.1 m2) of gross floor area.

SECTION 10.2.13.2 EXIT DETAILS


 Calculations for the capacity of means of egress must follow Paragraph "C" of Section 10.2.5.2 of this RIRR.
For each level or fire portion of the building, there must be at least two (2) remote exits of those mentioned
types.
 All aisles, corridors, exit discharges, exit locations, and access points must adhere to the requirements of
Section 10.2.5.2 of this RIRR. Unless prohibited by other regulations, every sleeping room must have a door
that leads directly to an exit access hallway.
 Section 10.2.5.11 of this RIRR mandates the illumination of egress means, emergency lighting, and the
provision of exit signs in public areas.

SECTION 10.2.13.3 PROTECTION


 Vertical apertures that are not shielded must comply with this RIRR's Section 10.2.6.5.
 According to Section 10.2.6.6 of this RIRR, fire alarm systems must be installed in detention and penal
facilities.
 According to this RIRR's section 10.2.6.6, automated occupancy notification must be carried out; a positive
alert sequence is permissible.
 A positive alarm sequence is allowed when notifying the fire department in line with Section 10.2.6.6 of this
RIRR.
 All structures with a Use Condition II, Use Condition III, Use Condition IV, or Use Condition V
classification must have an approved, monitored automatic sprinkler system installed throughout.
 Extinguishers for portable use must be available in accordance with para "C" of this RIRR's Section 10.2.6.9.
 Standpipe and hose systems must be provided in compliance with this RIRR's Section 10.2.6.8.
 Any hazardous place must be secured in line with this RIRR's Section 1 0.2.6.10. Equipment for cooking,
heating, cooling, ventilation, and other services must adhere to Division 7 of this Chapter.
