ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT
Copy number variations and their effect on the
plasma proteome 
Daniel Schmitz and others

Genetics, iyad179, https://doi.org/10.1093/genetics/iyad179

Published: 4 October 2023 Section: Investigation
Copy number variations (CNVs) affect large portions of the human
genome. They can cause disease but are underrepresented in
genomic research today. Using whole-genome sequencing in 1,021
individuals, we detected 184,182 polymorphic of which 15 were
associated with measurements of 16 plasma proteins. Of these, 6
were validated using long-read sequencing. By characterizing the
involvement of common CNVs as genetic determinants of the plasma
proteome, our results add to the understanding of the relationship
between genetics and disease development.

Ziwei Zhao and others

Genetics, iyad167, https://doi.org/10.1093/genetics/iyad167

Published: 15 September 2023 Section: Investigation
Loss of the conserved serine/threonine kinase NUAK results in the
degeneration of Drosophila melanogaster larval muscles. A screen to
identify proteins that physically interact with NUAK uncovered the
chaperone CryAB. Moreover, NUAK kinase activity in muscle tissue
promotes the phosphorylation of 2 previously unidentified serine
residues in CryAB. These data together highlight the importance of
phosphorylation in muscle homeostasis and provide a possible
mechanism to control CryAB function in the context of myopathic
disease.
