communicable diseases
also known as infectious diseases or transmissible
diseases, are illnesses that result from the
infection, presence and growth of pathogenic
(capable of causing disease) biologic agents in an
individual human or other animal host.
Disease Prevention strategies
There is no single intervention that can
completely prevent the transmission of
communicable diseases. Multiple strategies both
medical and non-medical should be
implemented.
A. Face Mask
The mask limits the spread of
respiratory pathogens. Sick person
with respiratory symptoms is advised
to stay at home. If they go out in public,
it is best that the sick person wears a
face mask.
1. Cover the mouth and nose when
coughing or sneezing.

2. Use tissues and dispose them

properly in the nearest waste receptacle.

3. Wash your hands after coughing or

sneezing and when holding
contaminated objects.
B. Handwashing
Handwashing is an important strategy
to stop spreading pathogens and
avoid getting sick. Many diseases such
as diarrhea and flu are spread by not
washing the hands. Handwashing may
be done using soap and water or using
alcohol-based hand rub.

prevention strategy. It is usually done
though vaccination to strengthen the
immune system against infectious
diseases.

survive. Remove any standing water.

that hold water like tires, pots, vases
