4.. (a) How will you convert: (not more than 2 steps)Give equations:
(i) Benzamide into Benzylamine.
(ii)Ethanamine to N,N-Diethylethanamine.
6.. b) Arrange the following compounds in increasing order of their acidic strength : 1 4-
Methylphenol, Phenol, 4-Nitrophenol
7. An organic compound ‘A’ with molecular formula C4H8O2 was hydrolysed with dil. H2 SO4 to give
a carboxylic acid ‘B’ and an alcohol ‘C’. ‘C’ on dehydration gives ethene and ‘C’ also on oxidation gives
back ‘B’. Identify ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ and write the chemical equations for the reactions involved.
8. hydrocarbon (A) with molecular formula C5H10 on ozonolysis gives two products (B) and ( C). Both
(B) and (C) give a yellow precipitate when heated with iodine in presence of NaOH while only (B) give
a silver mirror on reaction with Tollen’s reagent. a. Identify (A), (B) and (C). b. Write the reaction of B
with Tollen’s reagent c. Write the equation for iodoform test for C d. Write down the equation for
aldol condensation reaction of B and C.
9.. Using Valence bond theory, explain the following in relation to the paramagnetic complex
[Mn(CN)6] 3- a. type of hybridization b. magnetic moment value c. type of complex – inner, outer
orbital complex
10.. In E.coli DNA ,AT/GC ratio is 0.93. If the number of moles of adenine in
its DNA sample is 465,000, calculate the number of moles of guanine present.
