Houston Baptist University ... Legacy Scholarship —

strives to make the University’s educational programs a viable option
for all qualified students. HBU is committed to assisting students
and their families through opportunities for scholarships, grants and
other types of financial aid. This summary lists various types of aid
available to full-time undergraduate students seeking their first degree.
Amounts may vary in 2006-2007.
At Houston Baptist University, full-time enrollment for undergraduates
is defined as no less than eight hours per quarter; half-time is defined as
no less than six semester hours per quarter. Students must be accepted
to the University to be eligible for scholarship award consideration.
Scholarships/GRANTS
Founders Academic Scholarship —
$7,100 per year, renewable scholarship
Only new students are eligible.
Must have a cumulative 3.75 GPA on 32 or more semester hours as
calculated by the HBU Admissions Office.
Recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to retain the
scholarship.
Available a maximum of 12 quarters.
Total value $28,400+
$3,500 per year, renewable grant
Only new students are eligible.
Must have a cumulative 3.25 GPA on 32 or more semester hours as
calculated by the HBU Admissions Office
Recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to retain the
scholarship.
Available a maximum of 12 quarters.
Total value $14,000+
HBU Grant —
$3,500 per year, renewable grant. Limited number available.
Only new students who are admitted unconditionally may apply.
Must demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership record, and
qualify by area of study, campus engagement and financial need.
All recipients: must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to retain
the grant. This grant cannot be combined with EAS, Founders,
Presidential or Legacy.

Presidential Academic Scholarship — Grants-In-Aid —

$5,200 per year, renewable scholarship Awards may vary. A limited number are available.
Only new students are eligible. Students who contribute special abilities or services to the University
Must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA on 32 or more semester hours as may qualify. Awarded in music, art, cheer, forensics, athletics, and
calculated by the HBU Admissions Office. nursing (BSN). Contact respective University departments for
information.
Recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to retain the
scholarship.
Available a maximum of 12 quarters.
Total value $20,800+

Heritage Award —
Awards may vary.
Only new students may apply. Available to students with family
members who have graduated from HBU. Family is defined as
parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle.
Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA to retain the grant. This
grant cannot be combined with the Orange & Blue Award.
$500 grant per quarter with one family member, maximum $750
grant per quarter with more than one family member.

Orange & Blue Award —
Awards may vary.
Only new students may apply. Available to students with a
sibling simultaneously enrolled in full-time undergraduate study
at HBU. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA to retain the grant.
This grant cannot be combined with the Heritage Award.
$500 grant per quarter with two siblings simultaneously enrolled,
maximum $1000 grant per quarter with three or more siblings
simultaneously enrolled.

Available a maximum of 12 quarters.
Ministerial Dependents Grant —
$4,300 per year. A limited number are available.
Dependent children of ordained Baptist ministers and missionaries
may apply. Proof of ordination and current full-time ministry
are required. Students must be regularly admitted students.
Documents must be sent to the Office of Scholarships. Recipients
must maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA to retain the scholarship.
Available a maximum of 12 quarters.
Total value $17,200
SERV Aid —
The annual maximum award is $50 per credit hour.
It is available to Baptist undergraduate ministerial students and
those planning to enter some church-related profession. SERV Aid
requires a recommendation from the HBU Center for Exploring
Ministry Careers. SERV requires an annual renewal. Second
and consecutive renewal applications must be accompanied by
evidence that the student is active in a church that cooperates
with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT). TEG
recipients are not eligible. Contact the Christianity Department at

Church Matching Award —

Awards may vary. A limited number are available.
New students only may apply. Christian churches may contribute
scholarship dollars to a full-time, undergraduate student. The
University will match dollar for dollar up to $1,000 per student
for monies contributed in 2006-2007.
