CRY OF BAHAY TORO

Santiago Alvarez, a prominent

Katipunan ruler of Cavite, wrote
a version of the "Cry" that
initiated the Philippine
Revolution. Although not an
eyewitness, his version cannot be
considered equal to the accounts
of actual participants. Alvarez
was in Cavite at the time, but his
version of the first "Cry" is not as
accurate as others.
CRY ON BALINTAWAK
the people revolt and
demanded the destruction of
their cedulas, a symbol of
their severance from Spanish
rule. The board of directors,
despite their protests, voted
for the revolution, and the
people shouted "long live the
Philippines republic!"
Bonifacio, a humble
bodeguero, was awoken by
the news of the Spaniards
approaching.
