EXPERIMENT NO.

1
Linear application of operation amplifier

1. Objective :
To study the following application of op-amp using IC 741:
a. Inverting amplifier.
b. Non inverting amplifier.
c. Voltage follower.
d. Integrator
e. Differentiator
f. Adder ( summer )
g. Comparator.
2. Theory :
This experiment is a study of some basic Op-Amp configuration of
building blocks out of which numerous more complex circuits are
composed these circuits involve feedback to carry out their particular
function. their characteristics depend primarily on the configuration &
are to a great extent independent of the particular Op-Amp
characteristics except for the general requirement of high open loop gain.
one of the most useful configurations is the inverting amplifier shown in
figure below.
3.
Equipment required
a. Dual power supply ( DC
)
b. Function generator
c. CRO
d. Board circuit
4. Circuit diagram
a. Inverting amplifier
Circuit

Av = - Rf / Rin ……………..(1)
5. Procedure
( Test the serviceability of the kit before connecting with power
supply)
1. Connect the circuit as shown in the figure .
2. Give the input signal as specified .
3. Switch on the power supply .
4. Note the output signal ( amplitude ) from the CRO .
5. Draw the necessary waveforms on the graph sheet .
Table

b. Non inverting amplifier :

Other useful amplifier is the non-inverting amplifier shown in
figure below:

Circuit

Av = 1 + ( Rf / Rin )…………………..(2)
Procedure

(Test the serviceability of the kit before connecting with power supply)
1. Connect the circuit as shown in the figure.
2. Give the input signal as specified.
3. Switch on the power supply.
4. Note the output signal (amplitude) from the CRO (using table).
5. Draw the input & output waveforms on the graph sheet.
Table

Rf(K) Ri(K) Vo

Discussion
Q1- Analyze the circuits in fig.(1) &(2) to find the output & gain and compare
between the theoretical and practical results?
Q2- Drive mathematically equations (1)&(2) ?
Q3- Design inverting op-amp to get the output Vo=100*sin(3000π)t if the input is
Vi=4*sin(3000π)t ?
Q4-What are the applications of operational amplifier?
