INTRODUCTION

What is Chinese language?


 Standard Chinese (often called
Mandarin), based on the Beijing
dialect of Mandarin, was adopted in
the 1930s .
 Standard Chinese is the official
standard language of China, official
language of Taiwan, one of the four
official languages of Singapore , and
one of the six official languages of
the United Nations.
Modern Chinese has consonants, vowels and four tones.
Modern Chinese has its own word order and grammar.
Each Chinese character represents a monosyllabic
Chinese word or morpheme. There are currently two
systems for Chinese characters. The traditional
characters, used in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau.
Singapore was the second nation to officially adopt
simplified characters, although it has also become the
standard for younger ethnic Chinese in Malaysia.

What is the difference between
Chinese language and Chinese
dialect?

 The Chinese dialect varieties are typically


classified into several major groups:
Mandarin, Wu, Min, Xiang, Gan, Hakka,
and Yue, although some varieties remain
unclassified.
 Chinese dialects such as Cantonese,
Hokkien (Southern Min), Hakka, Teochew,
Taishanese, Foochow, Hainanese, etc are a
variety of a Chinese language that signals
where a person comes from as well as
characteristic of a particular group of the
language's speakers.
 Dialect --- Colloquial usage in specific
geographical areas, usually within a
region or nation-state.
What is Malaysian Chinese?
 Although Malaysian Chinese
(Mandarin) is derived from
Putonghua, but it has its own
characteristics.
 The grammar of Malaysian
Chinese is the same as Putonghua.
 Malaysian Chinese language users
have a different accent when
speaking Chinese.
 There are some localized words in
Malaysian Chinese, including
Malay loan words.
What is Chinese culture?
 Chinese culture is one of the oldest
cultures in the world, tracing back
to thousands of years ago.

 Traditional Chinese culture


includes thought, writing,
language, and then calligraphy,
painting, music, martial arts, folk
arts, chess, diet, costume,
festivals, taboos and folk customs
derived from a prosperous life.
Traditional culture is closely
related in our lives and integrated
into our lives.
 Chinese culture, also known as
Huaxia culture, is also understood as
the culture of all regions of China in a
narrow sense. It refers to the unique
culture of Chinese society that has
evolved and developed after inheriting
Chinese culture.
 It is characterized by the development
of the Confucian culture as its
backbone. The civilized Chinese
culture and the development needs of
East Asian countries have made
Chinese culture a profound influence
in East Asian countries.
