SECTION B:
CHOOSE EITHER TWO OF PHOTOS BELOW AND EXPLAIN BASED ON ALL NOTES
FROM CHAPTER 1 – 4.
a. In Intoduction of Social Phsycology have many types of schemas. Types of schemas
is Person schemas, Social schemas, Self-schemas and Event schemas. Person
schemas, also known as person prototypes or person categories, are cognitive
structures that represent our mental concepts or stereotypes about different types of
individuals or people. These schemas help us quickly categorize and make judgments
about others based on their characteristics and attributes. For example, The mother
schema includes expectations about what a typical mother is like, such as being
nurturing, caring, and protective. Then, Social schemas are social situational and
person-related schemas. Based on our cultural norms and prior experiences, they
assist us in comprehending and forecasting the conduct of others. An instance of a
"teacher" schema could have standards regarding the conduct expected of a teacher.
Self-schemas are schemas related to an individual's self-concept. They include ideas
and details about oneself, including identity, values, and skills. Self-perception and
self-esteem are influenced by self-schemas. Scripts, another name for event schemas,
are mental models of common events or circumstances. They consist of the steps to be
taken and the anticipated results. For example, the script for "going to a restaurant"
calls for arriving, placing an order, dining, and making payment.
b. In the field of social psychology, social bias pertains to the deliberate and frequently
imperceptible partiality or prejudice directed towards specific demographic groups on
the basis of their perceived social attributes, including but not limited to race, gender,
age, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing. These prejudices have
the potential to cause unjust and uneven treatment of people or groups, which feeds
prejudice and stereotypes. Based on photo number 1, this about stereotyping in social
psychology refers to the process of categorizing individuals or groups based on
specific traits, characteristics, or attributes, and then making generalizations about
them. Stereotypes are often oversimplified, rigid, and widely held beliefs about a
particular group, which can lead to biased judgments and perceptions. Stereotyping
can occur based on various factors, including race, gender, age, religion, nationality,
and more.
