I. Clean-Up Drive

A. Narrative

The Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) is one of the components of National Service
Training Program. In compliance of this program the VSU - Isabel NSTP instructors and
facilitators will conduct a CWTS activities for the students, contributory to the general
welfare and betterment of life of the members of the community.

To secure a clean and conducive environment for the students, instructors and staffs, the
Visayas State University - Isabel campus in coordination with with the NSTP advisers hold its
Clean-up Drive in the second semester for the School Year 2021-2022. As part of the NSTP
requirements, all freshmen are obliged to participate in the activity which will be scheduled
at specific dates between the month of April and May. The Clean-up drive is hold in the
vicinity of VSU - Isabel campus. Since there are a hundred of students and the NSTP teachers
can not facilitate all in one schedule. It was decided to divide the students. Hence, all
freshmen from different courses were grouped by batch.

The assembly time is around 6 in the morning. Students gathered in front of the
designated assembly area in the campus. Everyone is ready, bringing with them their cleaning
materials such as broom sticks, sacks and bolo. The School and the NSTP advisers make sure
that the safety protocols are followed in the midst of the activity. Vaccination cards are
checked and further instructions are given before the clearing starts. The clearing starts at
roughly eight in the morning. Everyone is doing their part and thankfully they finished
clearing after an hour. In contrast, those students who are not able to participate in the
clean-up drive at the specific dates given because of religious constraints, unvaccinated, etc.
are handled and given advised by the NSTP advisers. It can be through swapping schedules -
asking student from another batch to fill for you if you cannot surely attend at the scheduled
date, and any other alternatives.
B. Reflection

The Clean-up drive activity had given me an opportunity to become a disciplined and
more productive individual, concerning on how to care and how to be responsible in our
community and environment. Presenting and engaging such activities is indeed of great help
to us as a student and to our community if we only know how important every action we do.
Through this activity, we can now share our little contribution and part in a more meaningful
and significant way. With this concern, we could create an outlet to everyone who share the
same views and passion in sharing their own effort and own little way to protect and
maintain the natural environment through clean-up drive .

II. Tree Planting

A. Narrative

Tree planting is the process of transplanting tree seedlings, generally for forestry, land
reclamation, or landscaping purposes.

In coordination with the National Service Training Program (NSTP) and Campus Disaster
Risk Reduction Management (CDRRM), the Visayas State University – Isabel campus hold its
Tree-planting activity on the 28th of May 2022. This is with the purest agenda of “saving our
home, planting a tree.” We should “Plant a memory, plant a tree, do it today for tomorrow.
The tree planting activity is at the premises and outside the premises of Visayas State
University. The assembly time is between 6:00 to 6:30 AM in front of the students’ kiosk. The
students are bringing their respective tree seedlings – fruit bearing or non-bearing tree, such
as mango, mahogany, coconut, and the like. They have with them their tree guards that are
painted with white with the student’s name, course, NSTP CWTS 2021-2022 embedded on
each side. The tree guard is triangular, one meter in height and 0.80 meter in width.
The tree planting activity starts by around 8 AM. Students are guided by their NSTP
advisers. With the clear instructions given the students are able to plant their tree which
they later on secure with their tree guards. The activity lasted for about two hours.
Afterwards, the students assembled again in the kiosk for the checking of attendance.
Everything is well done, thanks for the cooperation of both the students and teachers.

B. Reflection

Planting trees draws forth the future. After planting a tree, I step back and say: this tree
could outlive me and the next few generations will reap its gifts. The ripple effects of trees
are unpredictable. Every person has a relationship with some tree and this could become
somebody’s tree. It could save someone’s life. The tree planting activity is exhausting and
challenging but it is soothing to know that with our effort of planting a tree we are able to
help save our environment. Tree planting does not only help the community but globally as a
whole and I am overwhelmed and extremely happy that I participate this activity which is of
great help in saving our mother earth. Through the activity, I become even more thoughtful,
responsible and caring of our environment.

The KKDAT seminar is very informative and a helpful tool that equipped us youth to be
more disciplined and vigilant to any issue we have had witness in our lives. The symposium
tackled the two important issue that I am concerned of as a member of the society, and I am
more than grateful for the insights, good advise and awareness shared to us by our Police

symposium I become more aware of the detrimental impact of drug use and addiction and
the terrorism act. It help us, youth, to develop new and improved strategies to help prevent
