INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATION DESCRIPTION

The AWS D9.1 Sheet Metal Welding Code provides

specifications and requirements for welding procedures.

A student can earn a welder performance qualification by

demonstrating the ability to produce welds meeting the

prescribed standards in accordance to AWS D9.1 Sheet

If a student obtains the qualification, the document certifies Welding

that the student is qualified to produce specific welds in
accordance with D9.1.

There are various certifying entities that offer this
certification. When selecting a qualification provider,
districts should choose certifying entities who are best
aligned with their regional employment needs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Certifying entities can include a Certified Welding Inspector or Certified Welding Educator who is qualified
to inspect AWS 9.1 Sheet Metal Welding Code.
