Exercise One: DRAW A SHOE

(8 minutes)

You will need:


1. A sketchbook
2. A pencil
3. shoe/slipper
Instructions:
● Place shoe somewhere you can see it clearly (such as on your desk)
● Draw the shoe to the best of your ability for 8 minutes
Reflection:

- What did you feel while you drew? Why?


- Try to picture the shoe again in your mind. What do you see?
- What do you notice about your drawing?
- Asses your style
- Do you notice any major differences between how the shoe
looks to you and how you drew it? What are those differences?
- Set some goals: What would you do different next time?

Exercise Two: Contour Drawing
(1 Minute)

You will need:


1. Sketchbook
2. A pencil
3. A small found object
Instructions:
● Look at your found object closely: follow the edges and lines on the object with your
eyes
● Without picking up your pencil, simultaneously trace the contours of the object with
your pencil
Exercise Three: Contour Drawing of Hand
(5 Minute)

You will need:


1. Sketchbook
2. A pencil
3. Your Hand
Instructions:
● Look at your object and follow the contours and lines with your eyes
● Simultaneously trace the contours of the object with your pencil in a single
line
● This time go very slowly and try to add as much detail as you can see

- Write a summary of his argument in your own words
- Contemplate your own feelings about the purpose of art. Do you think what
Wilde is saying is true? Why or why not?
Exercise Four: Contour Drawing of Plant
(30-45 min)

You will need:


1. Sketchbook
2. A pencil
3. Your Hand
Instructions:
● Go outside and look for a plant with lots of detail to draw
● Draw the contours of the plant - you may use more than one line but you
cannot erase
● Focus on adding lots of descriptive detail rather than drawing “accurately”
● Return once finished for sketchbook check-in
