1 Introduction
1.1 Background and purpose of the visit
The 47th meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) of National Mission for Clean
Ganga (NMCG) was held on 22.02.2023 at 11:00 PM under the Chairmanship of
Director General (DG), NMCG.
a) EA/ NABCONS shall ensure that field activities shall be carried out strictly
following the timelines and technical specifications proposed.
2
NMCG
Field Survey/ Data Collection (C/S Sections & L-Sections)(Total Station &
DGPS)
o The Topographic survey shall be carried out all along both side of drain
with corridor up to 15 meter either side from drain.
2. Investigations:
3. DPR Preparation: Detailed Project report including Design, Bill of Quantity and
Estimate for the project shall be prepared.
4. Engagements: Prof. H.S. Shankar from IIT Bombay, who has developed this
technology, shall be the consultant for the project for three months.

The experimental treatment of the sewage entering into the drain was tried through
Nature-Based Treatment - Soil Bio-Technology (SBT). The main purpose of the
experiment was to reduce the pollution load through the process of slow oxidation
before its final discharge into the main river channel. To remove the solid waste
entering into the drain collectors have been placed at the starting point of the drain.
Survey Markers: Deployment of GCP markers with known coordinates (from a prior survey)
on the ground in the survey area.
2. GCP Selection:
GCP locations has been selected by drone team strategically across the survey area to
ensure good spatial coverage.
3. DGPS Survey:
Settig up the DGPS receiver at a known point with accurate coordinates (a base station) at
Mauzpur for continuous observations
Two DGPS rover unit, visit each GCP location and record coordinates.
DGPS data differential correction techniques applied to enhance accuracy using RTK
B. A bathymetry survey for the Shahadara Drain in Delhi involves measuring the water depth of the
drain to create a detailed depth map of its underwater terrain.
Bathymetric Survey Boat: Utilizing a specialized survey boat equipped with the necessary
instrumentation for depth measurement.

NMCG
Echo Sounder: Installed a high-precision echo sounder on the survey boat. The echo
sounder emits sound waves that bounce off the riverbed, and the time taken for the sound to
return is used to calculate water depth.
GPS and IMU: Combine the echo sounder with Global Positioning System (GPS) and an
Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to accurately geo-reference the depth measurements.
Data Logging Software: Using specialized bathymetry data logging software to collect and
record depth data along with GPS and IMU data.
Safety Measures: Ensured the safety of the survey team, provide life jackets, and follow all
safety protocols.
2. Survey Planning:
Plan the survey route along the Shahadara Drain Cross Section at 100 meter and longitudinal
section, covering the entire area of interest.
Determined the spacing and density of survey lines based on the desired level of detail and
accuracy.
3. Survey Execution:
Survey boat into the Shahadara Drain at the designated starting point.
The survey boat follows predefined survey lines, and depth measurements are continuously
recorded as the boat moves.
5. Other Observations:
The drain is having high discharge roughly at 1.0 meter per second (by visual
observations )
