Abstruct
The hospital is an important part of public infrastructure in the development of modern
society. As a modern hospital, it should adhere to the principle of people-oriented and the
service objective of modern hospital architecture design. On the base of theory and practice
analysis, the trend of modern hospital architecture aims to put forward a new idea of modern
hospital architecture design to adapt to the update and change of medical mode in Rwanda.
Hospital construction should not only consider the comfort level, but also consider the actual
use process. Therefore, in the process of the construction of hospital, the surrounding
environment is the design scheme and the technique and equipment of the hospital should be
investigated.
CHAPTER I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION

I.1.Background

hospital was a building provided, equipped, maintained and staffed (with the exception of
family doctors and dentists who were licensed tenants) by the local health authority
(Moh, 2014)

The illnesses and infections represent a serious medical and public health problem in
developing countries including Rwanda. One of response on this issue is the
implementation of health facilities especially health centers and strengthening service
delivery is a key strategy to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Access to
health care is an important component of an overall health system which has a direct
impact on the burden of diseases that affect many countries in the developing world.
Measuring accessibility to health care therefore countries to a wider understanding of the
performance of health systems within and between countries which facilitates the
development of evidence based health policies (Moh, 2014)

According to Rwanda health annual report 2001, Rwanda’s health sector, like many
others in the country, has in the last twenty years evolved into vibrancy. In 1990, the
health system had a total of 34 hospitals, 186 health centers, 69 dispensaries, 179 private
pharmacies and 17 private medical clinics. 45 hospitals including King Feisal hospital
and 532 health centers. Musanze district had one hospital Ruhengeri and 14 health
centers the national health policy a plan recommends each district to have at least one
hospital, one health center by sector, and one health post in each cell. Although the policy
clarifies well the wish, there is some sectors, which hasn’t any health centers others they
have but with bad infrastructure conditions or with limit geographic accessibility due to
their catchment area, in case of Butaro sectors sector had health infrastructure that were
old and not modern their facilities were not on the level of serving a great number of
patients.
Therefore, this project would be based on architectural and design of health center
building that would be composed of various adequate facilities

Problem statement

Executive summary
Problem statement: Majority of
the rural people of bangladesh
is poor and also depend on
government health structures
for remedies from illness
in Bangladesh. Bangladesh
since
independence achieved much
progress in public health
domain, but the rich and
the
politically blessed can extract
major services from the public
health system. public health has
played a vital role in protecting
and promoting the health of
rural communities across the
nation. In many of these
communities, public health
offices and personnel are
the only
providers of health services.
As the existing infrastructure
erodes, additional and greater
demands are being made on an
already underfunded and
understaffed public health
system to
meet both its core functions and

Residents of BURERA DISTRICT IN BUTARO SECTOR BWERAMANA CELL
face a serious problem of lacking make a 48 Kilometers journey to a nearby health
center which is in MUSANZE TOWN sector. They complain that when a pregnant
woman goes to labour still in the village, the only alternative is to make her give birth
at home, a decision that is dangerous and most of the time becoming fatal. Without
money, it only gets harder to go to this health center as the only transport available is
motorcycle which costs about Rwf5000. Apart from medical services, these people in
this sector have no schools or telephone networks and services.

1.3 Objectives of the study

1.3. 1.Main objective

The main objective of this project was to do an architectural and structural design of three
stories Modern hospital building at Burera district, in butaro sectors sector.

1.3.2. Specific objectives

Specific objectives were tabulated below with their corresponding research questions

 To Conduct soil test to determine bearing capacity

 To do Architectural design
 To do structural design by using robot structural analysisi

 To Calculate total bills of quantities of building

1.4. Significance of the study

1.4.1. Country Interest

1. Availability of appropriate infrastructure to facilitate service delivery at all health facility

level solution thus rate mortality depends on travel long distances for specialized
treatment should be reduced.

2. Advanced Healthcare Services: Modern hospitals are equipped with state-of-the-art

medical equipment and technologies, allowing healthcare professionals to provide
advanced diagnostic and treatment options. This results in better patient care and
improved health outcomes.

3. Enhanced Patient Comfort: Hospital design considers patient comfort and well-being,
with private rooms, soothing aesthetics, and noise reduction measures. This contributes to
a more pleasant and less stressful environment for patients.

4. Infection Control: Modern hospital construction incorporates strict infection control

measures, including specialized ventilation systems and hygiene protocols. This reduces
the risk of healthcare-associated infections, safeguarding patient health.

5. Efficient Workflow: Hospital design is optimized for efficient workflow and

communication among healthcare staff. This can lead to quicker response times, better
coordination, and ultimately, improved patient care.

6. Sustainability: Many modern hospitals are built with a focus on sustainability, using eco-
friendly materials and energy-efficient systems. This reduces the hospital's environmental
impact and operating costs.

7. Disaster Preparedness: Hospitals are critical during emergencies and disasters. Modern
hospital construction takes into account disaster preparedness, ensuring the facility can
continue functioning even in challenging circumstances.
8. Research and Education: Some modern hospitals incorporate research and education
facilities, fostering medical innovation and training the next generation of healthcare
professionals.

9. Accessibility: Accessibility features are integrated into modern hospital design to

accommodate patients with disabilities, ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to
all.

10. Community Benefit: Modern hospitals often serve as anchors for healthcare in their
communities, providing essential medical services and contributing to the overall well-
being of the population.
