Objectives:
• Classify household materials according to their properties.
• Give reasons why household materials are useful and harmful.
• Decide on what to do with the most harmful but useful household material.

1. Look for 5 household materials at home and photograph each.


2. Paste each picture in the first column in Table A. Classify each material based on its use—a cleaning and
disinfecting, medical, food, or personal hygiene product. Write your answers in the second column.

1. How does this science classroom activity relate to science in the real world?
Science in the classroom is safer because the environment is controlled by a teacher. It is better explained
and described by the teacher. Having classmates in the classroom helps in opening more ideas .

2. Why is it important to be informed of the properties of the household products we use at home?
Its important to be informed of the properties of the household products that we use at home to
know how to properly use them and store them.

3. Which of the household materials in your list is most useful but least harmful?
Most useful to my family is alcohol. We use it before and after we touch things, it has been
most useful during the pandemic. We use it everyday and bring it all the time
Its least harmful because it has helped protect us from bacteria and viruses

4. What will you do with the most harmful but useful household materials that you have at home?
I would keep it safe from exposure from sunlight or too much heat.
I would store it in a safe place away from hazards and children
5. Based on your data and findings, what conclusion or generalization can you draw about the
properties of matter?
We use a lot of things in our home. They can have both harmful and beneficial effects for us.
We need to always be mindful how they are used and stored.
