PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. This Section includes the technical requirements of the Background Music


(BGM) System to be installed throughout the Four Seasons Hotel Jeddah
Corniche.

1.2 DEFINITIONS:

A. Technology Consultant: The designated project ICT, Audio Visual, Technology


and Security Consultant.

B. BGM: Background Music System.

C. BGM Contractor: The BGM Contractor and all appointed sub-contractors who
shall provide the Background Music Systems.

D. Furnish or Provide: purchase, deliver, install, commission test and warrant.

E. Component: any individual item of equipment, software or material, which is


an element of the Background Music Systems.

F. FoH: Front of House.

G. BoH: Back of House.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Pre-approval Submittals:

1. Before proceeding with any manufacturing or ordering the BGM


Contractor shall submit shop drawings for approval indexed by
specification number to the Client in accordance with the Main
Contractor’s Program of Works. A description of all items submitted shall
be included. Manufacturer's specification or data sheets shall be clearly
marked to delineate the options or styles to be furnished.

2. Provide Manufacturer’s catalogue information showing dimensions,


colours, and configurations. Product samples shall be provided when
requested. Submittals shall include Manufacturer’s cut sheets which
indicate compliance to the specifications. This shall include but not be
limited to all items called for in PART 2 – PRODUCTS of this document
including:

a. All BGM System Music Loudspeaker types.


b. All BGM System processing, routing, distribution and control
equipment hardware.
c. All BGM System Music Audio Servers.
d. All cables, connectors and interconnects.

3. The BGM Contractor must submit the following calculations as a


minimum:

a. Amplifier sizing calculations.


b. Loudspeaker speaker circuit arrangements and wattage tapping
settings.
c. Acoustic modelling (Ease or Modeler) Verification, SPL calculations
distribution at locations when requested.

4. Complete BGM System instruction manuals, service manuals, parts lists,


and current list of local Manufacturer-approved Service Centres.

5. Plans and elevations of the BGM System Equipment Racks quantifying all
equipment to be mounted therein.

6. Mechanical and electrical notes and construction details for each BGM
System device.

7. BGM System Schematic Diagrams detailing each device and all


interconnect wiring between devices. All wiring must include a unique
cable identification. Block diagrams involving cross-referencing to
catalogue specification sheets will not be acceptable.

8. All BGM System diagrams should be detailed, not just a schematic


representation defining the interconnection of all inputs and outputs for all
equipment. Diagrams shall indicate exact equipment counts numbering
and identification of cables.

9. Itemised list of all BGM System equipment and materials to be used in


The System.

10. BGM System drawings of all items such as floor Box AV plates, that are to
be custom fabricated or modified. Drawings shall be of scale suitable for
use in fabrication. BGM System shall show materials, finishes and
panel/control markings.

11. All listed drawings shall be produced on CAD or another computer


graphics workstation, by a professional Draftsperson. Photocopies or other
reproductions of the specifications or drawings are not acceptable.

12. BGM Contractor shall provide all additional information or demonstrations


required by the Owner and Technology Consultants to demonstrate
conformance with the specifications herein.

B. Contract Closeout Submittals

1. The BGM System Contractor will provide the following Contract closeout
submittals as a minimum, but not exclusive to any further requirements as
required by the main Contract package documents, submittals and design
requirements.

2. Project record drawings: prepare and submit two copies of manuals


containing:

a. Warranties, guarantees, and Manufacturer’s directions on equipment


and material provided. Replacement parts lists of major items of
equipment. Equipment brochures, wiring diagrams, control diagrams
and control programming including cable numbers and signal levels.
Approved Shop Drawings including details of fabricated items.
b. Operation instructions and description of System components and their
relationship to the System function (bound separately).
c. All “As Built” drawings to be provided both in electronic form (ACAD
most current at the time of completion, DWG unless otherwise
stipulated under the Main Contract conditions) and hard copies as
stipulated under the Main Contract package documents.

3. The BGM System Contractor shall disclose and detail in soft and hard copy
all the programming information, passwords & codes. The BGM System
Programs are to be complete with source codes and non-encrypted
including all application files and all configuration files with user interface
touch panels layouts for the Headend equipment, servers, DSP,
monitoring routing control and user interfaces.

4. The following documentation shall be issued to the Technology Consultant


for approval prior to handover and shall include but not be limited to the
following:

a. System Operation, Installation and Maintenance Manuals.


b. Written documentation for all logic modules as programmed for
System operation with a matrix showing interaction of all input signals
with output commands.
c. System program showing System functions controls and labelling of
equipment and devices.
d. All test reports.
e. As Built drawings including block diagrams, frame and cable labelling,
cable termination points, Equipment Room layouts and frame
installation details. Including all field changes made up to construction
completion.

1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. BGM System Headend Equipment and Core Architecture

1. The Primary Core Equipment (Hotel BGM Headend) shall be located in the
Main Audio Visual Equipment Room. The Audio will be distributed across
the Hotels Converged Network to remote Secondary Core Equipment
Racks housing I/O Processors and Amplification.

2. The UTP Infrastructure Cabling required to support the Audio LAN shall be
supplied by the Structured Cabling Contractor.

3. The separate Male and Female Hotel Spas shall be provided with an
independent BGM Headends. The music content will be derived as to suit
the style and ambience desired by the Spa Operators.

4. All BGM System equipment shall be installed within free standing or wall,
mounted 19” Equipment Rack. Racks will be provided as indicated, with
equipment installed in shared racks as noted within the design.

5. The BGM System will be independent of the Fire/Voice Alarm System and
an interface provided between the BGM System and the Fire Evacuation
System, in compliance with Standards BS5839 and NFPA 72, in order that
the building Background Music System is automatically muted in the event
of an alarm condition.

6. The BGM Contractor, will be responsible to develop the design


architecture as part of the Shop Drawings approval process, taking into
consideration and allowing for a maximum of less than 7 acceptable
network audio hops. A 0.25ms per hop will be considered as a maximum
and no more than 2ms overall within last network hop.

7. Dante Cards will be furnished with each Primary and Secondary Core to
segregate the Audio and control monitoring data bundles into separate
traffic streams as part of the network configuration for operation and
functionality for the Site Wide and Local Dante Audio Distributed Network
Architecture.

8. Each Secondary Core will then be considered as a Local Distributed Audio


Network within the Site Wide Network. The Local Core Audio Network will
then serve and furnish individual I/O frames, Power Amplifier and or
Dante Network Enabled Amplifier.

9. The BGM I/O Devices will serve as the intermediate connection route
between the local input devices and the distributed Audio Network. The
BGM Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating all final locations
with the Architect, Interior Designer, Millwork and Furniture Specialist.

B. Digital Audio Servers

1. BGM Music content shall be stored in digital format on hard drives and
shall receive monthly music updates via internet download. Each Music
channel shall be provided with a pre-loaded profiled and themed music
selection supplied by a Specialist Company. The final selection of themes
and genres shall be carried out in coordination with the Client. The Music
Servers shall be programmable so as to play out music tracks in a random
order with selection of tracks filtered by tempo and style. The Music
server shall be programmable for start and end time on a daily, weekly
and monthly basis.

C. Loudspeakers

1. The BGM System design shall incorporate multiple loudspeaker circuits


grouped into zones such that volume levels can be accurately set between
different areas, and different themed music content can be used to
differentiate BGM and Enhanced BGM areas.

2. Loudspeaker layout shall be as per the layout drawings and shall be


coordinated by the BGM Contractor in accordance with the Interior Design
Reflected Ceiling Plans, Interior Design and Landscape drawings and
details. The Systems shall in all cases be designed to provide even
coverage (+/- 3dB) and to be capable of an A-weighted sound pressure
level of 10dB above ambient noise level with sufficient headroom to cope
with transient peaks.

3. Enhanced BGM bandwidth frequency response of 45Hz to 20 kHz (-10db)


shall be provided in F&B and Specialist areas as indicated in the design
drawings. Subwoofers operating in the 45Hz to 180Hz range will be
utilised to enhance these BGM Zones.

D. Control and Local Inputs

1. Each BGM zone shall be configured as a discrete Audio Zone that is


controllable independently but shall have common connection and access
to the Digital Audio Server central music sources in the AV Control Room.
Note: Each Spa Treatment Room or Zone shall be configured as a discrete
Audio Zone that is controllable independently but shall have common
connection and access to the Digital Audio Server central music sources in
Audio Visual Equipment Room.

2. Central control of all zones shall be available from the Headend Systems
Graphical User Interface within the AV Control Room.

3. The location of BGM control panels shall be as indicated in the drawings;


the following principles will be applied:

a. Volume and Source Multi-Zone Control Panel will be located in BoH


locations around the site to control general public areas.
b. Each F&B outlet shall have its own unique dedicated music source,
Stereo Audio Input panel and Volume and Source Multi-Zone Control
Panel with the ability to select from any of the central sources.
c. Each Spa Treatment Room shall be a dedicated zone provided with a
local a Stereo Audio Input panel and Volume and Source Multi-Zone
Control Panel with the ability to select from any of the central sources
or the Guests portable music player.

1.5 SCOPE OF WORKS

A. The following section details the basic scope of works, this is to be read in
conjunction with all other sections. Specific works may be detailed elsewhere
in this document.

1. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to provide attendance and


coordination with the Operator, Technology Consultant, Architect and
Interior Designer as required in order to develop a complete and
coordinated final design through the Construction, Handover and Defects
Liability Period.

2. The BGM Contractor is responsible for the supply and installation of all
equipment as detailed in the design drawings and Bills of Materials for The
System. The BGM Contractor must obtain in writing explicit approval from
the Technology Consultant for any changes or substitutions to the
specification or quantity of items listed within.

3. The BGM Contractor is responsible to coordinate all final connections to


the network with the Active Network Specialist. The BGM Contractor will
be responsible for all final connection between the devices between the
active edge switches and BGM devices.

4. The BGM Contractor shall provide a detailed excel spreadsheet clearly


outlining (but not limited to) all network information relating to the BGM
Contractor devices. The Active Network Contractor will complete the
VLAN, Subnet Gateway and VLAN Fields and return to the BGM Contractor
for Configuration and Commissioning.

B. The BGM Contractor is responsible for the supply of any BGM Systems Racks
which are not provided under the Structured Cabling Contractor’s Scope of
Works.

C. The BGM Contractor shall supply and install Category 6 and fibre Optic cabling
required to support Audio Visual device that is not supported by the Structured
Cabling System infrastructure.

D. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to make inclusions for a minimum


2.5% attic stock of all common equipment used as part of the BGM Systems,
which will be reviewed and finalised by the Technology Consultant prior to
final nomination and award.

E. The BGM Contractor is responsible for all coordination with the Electrical
Contractor as required to ensure the correct services are provided in the
correct locations:

1. Containment and conduit

2. Back box locations

3. Power circuit locations

F. The BGM Contractor is responsible to provide the following services, but not
limited to:

1. Furnish Shop Drawings and receive approval prior to fabrication and


installation.

2. Furnish/provide calibrated test reports for complete Systems.

3. Perform initial adjustments and verification tests. Submit verification test


report.

4. Participate in acceptance tests and perform final adjustments.

5. Provide all documentation including copies of all relevant equipment


manuals.

6. Maintenance and warranty services shall commence after Systems


acceptance.

7. Guarantee all equipment and components from the date of acceptance.

G. The BGM Contractor shall provide training on all aspects of the BGM System
and will provide as part of the Tender submission, a detailed training program.

H. BGM System wiring shall be carried out using Low Smoke Zero Halogen LSZH /
Plenum NFPA 90A compliant cable where code requires.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Standards

1. Codes, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the work, are as fully
part of the specifications as if herein repeated or attached. If the BGM
Contractor should note items in the drawings or the specifications,
construction of which would be code violations, promptly call them to the
attention of the Technology Consultant in writing.

2. Where the requirements of other sections of the specifications are more


stringent than the applicable codes, rules, regulations, and ordinances,
the specifications shall apply.

3. In addition to the standards listed in this section, all applicable local


building code, safety, environmental and other requirements shall be met.

4. The BGM Contractor shall comply with the following:

B. General Requirements

1. The BGM Contractor shall seek explicit approval from the Technology
Consultant. Work on site or procurement may not start without this
approval. The final design presented by the BGM Contractor must conform
to the design intent described in this specification and on the Tender
drawings.

2. The BGM Contractor shall furnish all materials, labour and any engineering
services to provide complete and professionally installed BGM System in
working order as described herein. The BGM Contractor shall ensure
System professional services will only be carried out by suitable trained
and experienced personnel and accomplished in a best workmanship
manner, according to approved and accepted trade practices.

3. The BGM Contractor shall provide all supporting Manufacturer’s


accreditations and certification; these are to be current and validated. The
BGM Contractor shall include Manufacturer’s documented submissions as
part of the handover documents stating the Manufacturer is satisfied that
the BGM has been installed, configured and commissioned in line with
their Operational Standards, recommendations, guidelines and industry
best practices, and that The Systems are ready to be handed over to the
Client.

4. The BGM Contractor shall be regularly engaged in the design and


installation of large BGM Music Systems of the type, size and
characteristics detailed for this project. The BGM Contractor must have
been active within the industry for not less than five (5) years in The
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and be certified to ISO-9001 or equivalent.

C. Delivery, Storage and Handling

1. The System components must be handled with care to prevent damage,


breaking and scoring. Do not install damaged equipment or components,
any damaged equipment or components are to be replaced with new.

2. The System Components and Cables are to be stored in clean dry place,
protected from weather, dirt, fumes, water, construction debris, and any
physical damage.

3. The BGM Contractor shall at all times make available the required
personnel for any unscheduled inspection that can be requested at any
time by the Main Contractor.

1.7 WARRANTY

A. Complete documentation regarding the Manufacturer’s warranty shall be


submitted as part of the proposal. This shall include but is not limited to a
sample of the warranty that would be provided when the installation is
complete, and documentation of the support procedure for warranty issues.

B. Warranty shall be for 1 year as minimum. Where Manufacturers have offered


in excess of a year warranty, the greater will be disclosed by the BGM
Contractor.

C. The BGM System will include for a 1-year Service/Maintenance Contract which
is over and above the 12-month warranty. The BGM Contractor will be
expected to provide an example of the Service/Maintenance Contract to the
Technology Consultant when requested. The Service/Maintenance Contract
must not be a generic document and must be specific to the Four Seasons
Hotel Jeddah Corniche.

1.8 SPARE PARTS

A. The BGM Contractor shall ensure sufficient spare parts availability for
emergency replacement of any faulty component any time from project
implementation until the end of the defect’s liability period.

B. The BGM Contractor shall provide to the Technology Consultant an inventory


of BGM System spare parts, materials, consumables, and any other system
item in order to meet the specified warranty, maintenance requirements and
keep the BGM System in a continuous operational mode during the warranty
period.

C. An Attic Stock/Spares allowance shall be specified in the Bill of Materials. 6


Months prior to completion the BGM Contractor must request a list of Attic
stock/Spares. The Attic Stock/Spares are to be handed to the Operator prior to
completion and remain onsite. Any of the allowance not used must be credited
back to the Customer.

1.9 DESIGN RESPONSIBILITY

A. System components, design, operation, installation and workmanship shall


comply with the applicable local regulations and code requirements of
authorities having jurisdiction These shall have precedence over other codes
and standards indicated, unless otherwise approved by the Technology
Consultant, in writing.

B. Specifications and drawings are detailed only to the extent necessary to show
design intent and signal flow. It shall be understood and agreed by the BGM
Contractor that the work herein described shall be complete in every detail so
as to provide a complete and fully functional System even though every item
necessarily involved is not specifically mentioned.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Where possible, common equipment items have been used across the
different areas of The Development in order to simplify maintenance
procedures and to provide the end user with a consistent user interface
method of operation and maintenance.

B. Wherever equipment is specified by Manufacturer and model number, it is for


the purposes of establishing a standard of quality, performance, construction
and function. Alternatives offered that provide/meet the base specification and
offer enhanced features, functionality and levels of integration will be
considered, alternatives offered that do not meet the base specification will
not be considered. The BGM Contractor must, in all cases, gain pre-approval
for all products prior to purchase, as described within the Pre-Approval
Submittals section within this document.

C. All materials and equipment shall be new and of the latest design or model
offered for sale by the Manufacturer.

D. Equipment models provided shall operate at the required AC line voltage and
frequency.

E. The BGM Contractor must ensure that all equipment and systems are designed
and installed to provide electromagnetic compatibility within The System and
with any other systems installed in the same locations. Comply with EMC
directive 89/336/EEC.

F. Manufacturers must be ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and UL Certified.

G. All goods and services supplied under the contract shall have their origin in the
following countries: North & South America, Europe, GCC Region, ASIA Pacific,
Japan, Taiwan, Russian Federation, India, Taiwan and South Korea or in the
countries, with which The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has agreed trade
relations and no restriction of manufactured goods entry.

H. “Origin” is defined as the place where the goods are manufactured or


produced or from which the services are supplied. Goods are produced when,
through manufacturing, processing and substantial or major assembling of
components, a commercially recognised new product results that is
substantially different in basic characteristics or in purpose or utility from its
components. The origin of goods and services is distinct from the nationality of
the Supplier.

I. The Manufacturers pre-approved for use on this project include:

1. Distribution - QSC, Bi Amp, Bose & London Blu.

2. Amplifiers - Crown, QSC, Electro-Voice, Bose & Lab.Gruppen.

3. Speakers - Beale Street Audio, Boston Acoustics, Sonance, Meyer Sound,


Bose, Electro-Voice & JBL.

2.2 SOURCE EQUIPMENT

A. Digital Audio Server

1. The Digital Audio Server shall be internationally branded (IBM, HP, Cisco
Lenovo etc.) with the latest specification at the time of purchase and shall
not be constructed by or proprietary to the BGM Contractor.

2. The Digital Audio Server device shall be CE, and UL certified.

3. The specification of the Digital Audio Server shall be as follows:

a. Form: Small Form Factor


b. Processor: i7 2.0 GHz, 533 MHz. or Latest
c. Ram: 8 GB
d. Chipset: Intel
e. Interfaces: LAN 10/100/1000BaseT, USB 2.0
f. Hard Drive: 1 TB Hard Drive

output)

2.3 DISTRIBUTION

A. DSP Processors

1. Where DSP Processors are indicated in the design, the BGM Contractor is
responsible to supply either a DSP Processor, modular I/O frames or fixed
I/O modules from the same Manufacturer across The Project. It is the
BGM Contractor’s responsibility to ensure the device chosen is fit for
purpose, this includes but is not limited to processor power, input and
output quantity, network availability, control requirements and system
compatibility. Where Input and Output Quantities are specified in the
Design and Bill of Materials this is only a guide to the minimum required.

2. Primary Network Audio Core

a. The BGM Contractor, will be responsible to provide a design


Architecture based on a Core Processor to Core Processor Architecture
to serve as the Site Wide Distributed Audio Network.
b. Each Core will then be considered as a Local Distributed Audio
Network within the site wide network. The Local Core Audio Network
will then serve and furnish individual I/O frames, Power Amplifiers and
or Audio Network Enabled Amplifiers.
c. The Network Audio Core System shall operate across the Hotels
Converged Network (gigabit Layer 3 Ethernet) and shall follow
accepted IT networking protocols, including QoS, PTP, and UDP/IP.

d. The Network Audio Core shall have the capability to stream from 128 x
128 up to 256 × 256 high-quality 32-bit floating point Audio channels
across the network, with less than 2.5 ms latency from analogue input
to analogue output, as well as convey control data and listen-bus
monitoring signals.
e. The System’s main components shall comprise of a centralised
processor and control core units, while peripherals may comprise of
Input/Output frames configurable for interfacing common analogue
and digital signals, including microphone and line-level Audio, Dante,
as well as analogue outputs to power amplifiers.
f. Other allowable peripherals shall be network wall-mount touchscreen
controllers, and network power amplifiers with the ability to stream
32-bit floating point Audio to and from the centralised core processor.
g. Component capabilities or performance shall not be limited by location
on the network.
h. The System shall be capable of complete redundancy, including
redundant core processors, redundant LAN structures and also,
through the use of switchover accessories, redundant amplifier and
I/O frame configuration.
i. The System shall be controllable using a customisable user control
interface via one or more PC and/or iOS devices connected
simultaneously to the network.
j. The software shall allow the operating configuration to be designed on
a PC that may or may not be connected to the network, and it shall
allow configurations to be saved as files that can be stored, backed
up, transferred via e-mail or another media.
k. The specification of the Network Audio Cores shall be as follows:

3. Control Software Network Audio Cores

c. Individual or grouped sets of controls may be placed and assigned to
specific system functions, or component objects may be copied directly
from the networked Audio System design file into the control software,
resulting in completely pre-assigned control surfaces.
d. An array of drawing tools shall be provided for extensive graphic
manipulation of controls, backgrounds, and labelling.
e. Control screens may be created with the ability to easily navigate
between multiple pages of operation. Once created, a custom control
file may be downloaded into The System, where it can then be

4. I/0 Frames

a. The device shall provide versatile input/output capability to the


network Audio System. It shall have slot capacity for as many as four
“Type 2” Audio I/O Cards. It shall be able to accommodate up to 64
digital input and 64 digital output Audio Channels or up to 16 analogue
input and 16 analogue output Audio channels.
b. The device’s enclosure must be mountable in a standard 19-inch
Equipment Rack and shall be two rack units (3.5 inches) high. It shall
be 426 mm (16.13 inches) deep and shall have tabs at the rear
corners for attachment to rear rack rails.
c. On the front panel, the device shall have a 240 × 64-pixel
monochrome LCD display, eight tri-colour card status LED indicators,

1. The Spike-Mount Weatherproof Full Range Speaker shall be installed


amongst plants and landscaping in a typical soil or rock bed. Each ground
stake shall be made from durable metal construction and include an
underground security plate to deter theft and hold the speakers firmly in
place.

2. Each speaker shall include a short length of direct-burial wire that is


permanently attached to the speaker and routed through the mounting
base for a clean, reliable installation. A suitable in-ground electrical box

2.7 RACKS AND HARDWARE

A. BGM Equipment Racks

1. The BGM Contractor will be responsible to furnish the Equipment Racks


with all associated peripheral equipment that shall include but not be
limited to power distribution, Cable Management System, blanking panel’s
ventilation panels, equipment shelves and cooling ventilation extraction
fans.

2. All Equipment Racks and Cabinets should comply with the latest revision
of “EIA-310-D” Industry Standard for 19-inch, rack cabinets.

3. The height of the Rack shall be chosen to have 25% spare space for
future expansion.

4. An Internal Mains Power Distribution System shall be provided. Each


termination shall be labelled with the equipment item served. All mains
terminals shall be shielded from inadvertent touch.

5. A Mains Power on/off switch indicator light shall be provided on a mains


panel at the bottom of the Rack.

6. Closed Racks will be used. All Racks through the building will be from the
same Manufacturer, the sizes will vary according to location.

7. Racks dimensions will be specified within the Design and Bill of Materials

8. The Racks shall have:

a. Standard front and rear adjustable rack rail.


b. Fully vented front and rear doors with key lock.
c. Reversible, screwless, lifts-off front and rear door hinges to allow

each group shielded with a braided shield, encased in a colour coded high flex
jacket, 47mm nominal overall diameter.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 WIRING

A. Segregate Background Music System wiring in raceway.

B. Cables and raceways used for Background Music circuits, and equipment
control wiring associated with the Background Music System, may not contain
any other wire or cable.

C. Wiring within enclosures: Separate power-limited and non-power-limited


conductors as recommended by the Manufacturer. Install conductors parallel
with or at right angles to sides and back of the enclosure. Bundle, lace, and
train conductors to terminal points with no excess. Connect conductors that
are terminated, spliced, or interrupted in any enclosure associated with the
Fire Alarm System to terminal blocks. Mark each terminal according to the
System's wiring diagrams. Make all connections with approved crimp-on
terminal spade lugs, pressure-type terminal blocks, or plug connectors.

D. Cable Taps: Use numbered terminal strips in junction, pull and outlet boxes,
cabinets, or equipment enclosures where circuit connections are made.

E. Colour-Coding: Colour-code fire alarm conductors in red differently from the


normal building power wiring. Paint Fire Alarm System junction boxes and
covers red.

F. No joints are allowed in the Background Music System’s Cabling.

G. The BGM Contractor shall install all equipment items in accordance with
Contract Drawings, Manufacturer’s instructions and approved submittal data.

H. The Background Music System’s installation and construction methods shall


conform to the requirements of the applicable International Standards.

I. The BGM Contractor shall install all equipment items in accordance with the
Manufacturer's instructions, and adjustments required to deliver a complete
and operable System.

J. Earthing and Bonding shall be installed as necessary to preclude earth loops,


noise, and surges from adversely affecting System operation.

K. The BGM Contractor shall obtain equipment through a single source authorised
by Manufacturer.

L. The BGM Contractor shall coordinate layout and installation of System


components and the Suspension System with other construction that
penetrates ceilings or is supported by them including light fixtures, fire alarm,
HVAC equipment, Fire Suppression System, and partition assemblies.

M. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible for coordination with various systems
under this Contract and the Contractors involved in The Project.

N. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to include and allow for all test
equipment, instruments, tools and labour required to conduct The System
tests.

O. Approved Cable Types must be used, unless otherwise called for in these
specifications and drawings.

P. Transmission of Audio and control signals between the different equipments of


The System shall be done through a cable network of appropriate
characteristics. These cable networks should be in full conformity with the
requirements of the Manufacturers of the different equipments which
constitute The System.

Q. All cables should be approved by The System Manufacturer before ordering.

R. Cables, regardless of length, shall be marked with permanent wrap-around


number or letter cable markers at both ends. There shall be no unmarked
cables at any place in The System.

S. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that all cables are labelled in accordance with
the method identified by the Client’s representative and shall provide a sample
of the proposed labelling method for approval prior to installation.

T. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that cables are cut to the length dictated by
the run.

U. Cable joints are not allowed anywhere within the BGM System installation.

V. The BGM Contractor shall ensure no splices are permitted in any pull boxes.

W. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that no cable is installed with a bend radius
less than that recommended by the Cable Manufacturer.

3.2 SPEAKER AND FIELD EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION

A. All Speakers and Field Equipment shall be installed in the locations specified
and agreed in the design drawings. Where onsite conditions require a move
from these spaces, approval from the Technology Consultant and Interior
Designer must be obtained.

B. All BGM Equipment must be installed level and flush with the surface they are
being mounted to.

C. All BGM Equipment located either externally or in a wet space shall be fully IP
rated or installed within an appropriate IP rated enclosure.

D. Where requested by the Interior Designers, Speakers or Plates must be colour


coded to the RAL code specified. The spraying of this equipment should be
conducted off-site by a paint specialist.

E. Cleaning: Remove paint splatters and other spots, dirt, and debris. Touch up
scratches and marred finish to match original finish. Clean unit internally using
methods and materials recommended by Manufacturer.

F. Ground cable shields and equipment according to System Manufacturer's


written instructions to eliminate shock hazard and to minimise, to the greatest
extent possible, ground loops, common-mode returns, noise pickup, cross talk,
and other impairments.

3.3 RACK INSTALLATION

A. All processing equipment shall be mounted in standard 19-inch Racks.

B. Where specified in the contract drawings and documentation, the BGM


Contractor must install equipment within ‘Split Racks’ shared with the Hotel
Converged Network Equipment. All cabling within these racks must enter
directly into the dedicated BGM compartment of the Rack. No BGM Equipment
or Cabling shall be located in the separated Hotels Converged Network
compartment.

C. The BGM Contractor is responsible for providing fans, shelves, drawers, special
power wiring, earth connections, surge suppression, patch panels, patch
cords, cables, connectors and adapters of any kind necessary to accommodate
The System installation, operation, testing, or maintenance. The BGM
Contractor shall provide the appropriate factory or custom rack mount
adapters for all equipment installed in the Equipment Rack, whether

specifically itemised or not. The BGM Contractor shall cover unused slots using
blank panels.

D. Install framed instructions and zone layout in a location visible within the
Audio Visual Control and Equipment Room and within each distributed
Background Music Equipment Rack.

E. Background Music Zone numbering scheme shall be in alphanumeric


representation reflecting the Floor Number.

F. Ground all BGM equipment and associated circuits; Install a ground wire from
main service ground to BGM Racks. Ground cable shields and equipment
according to System Manufacturer's written instructions to eliminate shock
hazard and to minimise, to the greatest extent possible, ground loops,
common-mode returns, noise pickup, cross talk, and other impairments

3.4 TESTING AND COMMISSIONING

A. Factory Acceptance Tests

1. The BGM Contractor shall carry out any factory acceptances tests, in
Manufacturer's factory itself, before any site delivery, in order to make
sure that the system of both hardware and software and The System after
integration of various sub-systems is able to satisfy site technical
requirements of the equipment specifications.

B. Test Plan

1. All tests are to be carried out, according to the methodology presented in


the Test Plan which has been submitted by the BGM Contractor and
approved by the Technology Consultant.

2. The tests are to cover every aspect related to the specifications of The
System and its operation; including, but not limited to, visual inspections,
measurements, and operation.

3. All factory acceptance test specifications shall be subject to configuration


management and change control by the BGM Contractor at every level.

4. The results of the factory acceptance tests, together with any re-testing
because of failure, shall be recorded and signed by the authorised
personnel of the BGM Contractor and the Technology Consultant.

C. Field Quality Control

1. The BGM Contractor must use manufacturer authorised service


representative to inspect field-assembled components and connections
and to supervise installation, pre-testing, testing, and adjustment of The
System. Report results in writing.

2. The BGM Contractor must provide Engineers who are familiar with The
System to assist the Technology Consultant during the acceptance testing
and equalisation for the duration of time it takes to complete the

adjustments. A minimum of four days shall be required to complete the


adjustments.

3. Pre-testing: After installation, align, adjust, and balance The System and
perform complete pre-testing. Determine, through pre-testing, the
compliance of The System with requirements of the drawings and
specifications. Correct deficiencies observed in pre-testing. Replace
malfunctioning or damaged items with new ones, and retest until
satisfactory performance and conditions are achieved. Prepare forms for
systematic recording of acceptance test results.

4. Provide a statement of completion certifying that The System is installed


and is ready for acceptance testing and equalisation to the Technology
Consultant.

5. Report of Pre-testing: After pre-testing is complete, provide a letter


certifying the installation is complete and fully operable, including the
names and titles of witnesses to preliminary tests.

6. Schedule a time for the Technology Consultant to perform System


acceptance testing and equalisation with at least 14 days advance notice.

7. Final Test Notice: Provide a minimum of 10 days' notice in writing when


The System is ready for final acceptance testing.

8. Minimum System Tests: Test The System according to procedures


outlined in performance specification and the required tests which are as
follows:

a. Verify the absence of unwanted voltages between circuit conductors


and ground.
b. Test all conductors for short circuits using an insulation-testing device.
c. With each circuit pair, short circuit at the far end of the circuit and
measure the circuit resistance with an ohmmeter. Record the circuit
resistance of each circuit on record (As Built) drawings.
d. Verify that the control unit is in the normal condition as detailed in the
Manufacturer's Operation and Maintenance Manual.
e. Test initiating and indicating circuits for proper signal transmission
under open circuit conditions. One connection each should be opened
at not less than 10 percent of initiating and indicating devices.
Observe proper signal transmission according to class of wiring used.
f. Test each initiating and indicating device for alarm operation and
proper response at the control unit.
g. Test The System for all specified functions according to the approved
Operation and Maintenance Manual. Systematically initiate specified
functional performance items at each station, including making all
possible alarm and monitoring initiations and using all communications
options. For each item, observe related performance at all devices
required to be affected by the item under all System sequences.
Observe indicating lights, displays, signal tones, and annunciator
indications. Observe all voice Audio for routing, clarity, quality,
freedom from noise and distortion, and proper volume level.

h. Test both primary and secondary circuits: verify by test that the
Secondary Circuits System is capable of operating The System for the
period and in the manner specified.
i. The sound pressure level spectrum, from the program Speaker
System, in each octave band shall be ±3 db from 100 hz to 15 khz
with no greater than 2% acoustical total harmonic distortions at sound
levels of 90 dB at one meter above finish floor level.
j. The sound pressure level spectrum, from the Speech Reinforcement
System, in each octave band shall be ±3 dB from 100 hz to 10 khz
with no greater than 2% acoustical total harmonic distortions at sound
levels of 85 dbc at one meter above finish floor level.
k. Signal-to-noise ratio including cross talk: -52 dB or better.
l. The standard Audio signal level for this facility is +4dbu 0dbu = 20
logv 0.7746.
m. An Audio tone of +4dbu should produce a 0 vu reading on all properly
calibrated balanced signal meters specified in this System. Equipment
with unbalanced inputs used in this System will display 0 vu with an
input of approximately -7bdu.
n. Set standard Audio line level for interface between equipment in this
System and to external systems to +4dbu.
o. Ensure that load input impedance is either higher than or matches
source equipment output impedance. Do not connect load to source
equipment where input impedance of the former is lower than the
output impedance of the latter. Report such instances.
p. Initially adjust all System gain controls for optimum signal-to-noise
ratio. After all adjustments required to meet specification requirements
are made, measure and report the resulting System electrical signal-
to-noise ratio at the amplifier outputs from 20-20 khz in 1/3 octave
bands referenced to the voltage required to achieve 85 dB sound
pressure level at one meter above finish floor level.
q. Measure 70-volt loudspeaker/auto-transformer line impedance at the
Equipment Rack with all loudspeakers connected and the amplifiers
disconnected. Report the absolute value at 1 khz for each loudspeaker
zone.
r. Measure 8-ohm loudspeaker line impedance of the Equipment Rack
with the line connected at all loudspeakers and the amplifiers
disconnected. Report the dc line resistance for each loudspeaker.
s. System frequency response: measure the sound pressure level using a
calibrated type 1 precision sound level meter as defined by ansi s1.4.
Measure using the slow time constant. Report the "raw house curve"
with the equaliser controls set to "0." Adjust all gain controls and
equalisers to provide the 1/3 octave band sound levels specified.
t. Coverage uniformity: scan the areas served by The System and record
sound pressure level in 1/3 octave bands. Perform any necessary
adjustments to loudspeaker orientations as required to achieve the
specified uniformity.
u. Controls: adjust all controls to achieve the specified performance.
Provide shaft-locks or covers for all level controls, as appropriate to
prevent unauthorised gain changes.

v. Adjust speech reinforcement equaliser to minimise feedback for


microphones (i.e. maximise gain before feedback) and to provide a flat
acoustical spectrum from 400 hz to 6 khz. Roll off the low frequencies
at 12 db per octave and the high frequencies at 6 db per octave.
w. Control functions: demonstrate that each of the controlled devices
may be controlled either at the individual device or through the use of
the Remote-Control Systems and that all individual devices and
combinations of devices may be utilised in the logical and common
formats and that all systems are in proper working order.

9. Re-testing: Correct deficiencies indicated by tests and completely retest


works affected by such deficiencies. Verify by The System test that the
total System meets specified requirements and complies with applicable
standards.

10. Report of Tests and Inspections: Provide a written record of inspections,


tests, and detailed test results in the form of a test log. Submit log on the
satisfactory completion of tests.

11. Tag all equipment, stations, and other components at which tests have
been satisfactorily completed.

12. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to replace and make operational
all damaged equipment/accessories, if any, which are part of existing,
while connecting to existing system.

13. Experimental Period: as described under “WARRANTY” Article.


Demonstrate successful operation to confirm, to the satisfaction of the
Technology Consultant, that The System is free of remarks and is ready
for taking-over.

D. Occupancy Adjustments

1. When requested within 12 months of date of taking over, provide on-site


assistance in adjusting sound levels, controls, and sensitivities to suit
actual occupied conditions. Provide up to two visits to Project Site during
other than normal occupancy hours for this purpose. Visits for this
purpose shall be in addition to any required by warranty.

3.5 DEMONSTRATION AND TRAINING

A. Engage a factory-authorised and trained service representative to train the


Employer's Maintenance Personnel on procedures and schedules for operating,
adjusting, troubleshooting, and servicing The System.

B. Training shall be provided for a minimum of 3 levels of Maintenance Staff;


Engineer, Supervisor and Technician.

C. Training shall also be provided for fire service personnel: supervisors FCC
attendants.

D. Training manuals and technology training for all systems shall be in English
unless otherwise requested in the Main Contract.

E. Demonstrate full functionality of The System as specified to the acceptance of


the Technology Consultant, Hotel Operator and Authorities having Jurisdiction
(AHJ’s).

F. The BGM Contractor shall provide a minimum of 10, two-hour formal training
sessions for all operating and supervisory personnel upon the completion of
the installation.

G. Prior to the training sessions, the BGM Contractor shall provide preliminary
copies of The System’s Operating Instructions as instructional aids.

H. Provide one follow-up four-hour visit per system to clarify misunderstandings


on the part of The Systems' Supervisory or Operating Personnel regarding the
proper operation of The System.

I. The training must include at a minimum:

1. Preventive maintenance, service techniques and schedules.

2. Overall System concepts, capabilities and functions.

3. Explanation of all control functions.

4. Methods and means of troubleshooting and replacement of all distribution


and drop wiring and devices.

5. Manuals, drawings and technical documentation must be used in training


and shall be left with the Hotel Operator, or their designated
representative at the completion of training for use in the future.
