PART 1 GENERAL
1.2 DEFINITIONS:
C. BGM Contractor: The BGM Contractor and all appointed sub-contractors who
shall provide the Background Music Systems.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Pre-approval Submittals:
5. Plans and elevations of the BGM System Equipment Racks quantifying all
equipment to be mounted therein.
6. Mechanical and electrical notes and construction details for each BGM
System device.
10. BGM System drawings of all items such as floor Box AV plates, that are to
be custom fabricated or modified. Drawings shall be of scale suitable for
use in fabrication. BGM System shall show materials, finishes and
panel/control markings.
1. The BGM System Contractor will provide the following Contract closeout
submittals as a minimum, but not exclusive to any further requirements as
required by the main Contract package documents, submittals and design
requirements.
3. The BGM System Contractor shall disclose and detail in soft and hard copy
all the programming information, passwords & codes. The BGM System
Programs are to be complete with source codes and non-encrypted
including all application files and all configuration files with user interface
touch panels layouts for the Headend equipment, servers, DSP,
monitoring routing control and user interfaces.
1. The Primary Core Equipment (Hotel BGM Headend) shall be located in the
Main Audio Visual Equipment Room. The Audio will be distributed across
the Hotels Converged Network to remote Secondary Core Equipment
Racks housing I/O Processors and Amplification.
2. The UTP Infrastructure Cabling required to support the Audio LAN shall be
supplied by the Structured Cabling Contractor.
3. The separate Male and Female Hotel Spas shall be provided with an
independent BGM Headends. The music content will be derived as to suit
the style and ambience desired by the Spa Operators.
4. All BGM System equipment shall be installed within free standing or wall,
mounted 19” Equipment Rack. Racks will be provided as indicated, with
equipment installed in shared racks as noted within the design.
5. The BGM System will be independent of the Fire/Voice Alarm System and
an interface provided between the BGM System and the Fire Evacuation
System, in compliance with Standards BS5839 and NFPA 72, in order that
the building Background Music System is automatically muted in the event
of an alarm condition.
7. Dante Cards will be furnished with each Primary and Secondary Core to
segregate the Audio and control monitoring data bundles into separate
traffic streams as part of the network configuration for operation and
functionality for the Site Wide and Local Dante Audio Distributed Network
Architecture.
9. The BGM I/O Devices will serve as the intermediate connection route
between the local input devices and the distributed Audio Network. The
BGM Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating all final locations
with the Architect, Interior Designer, Millwork and Furniture Specialist.
1. BGM Music content shall be stored in digital format on hard drives and
shall receive monthly music updates via internet download. Each Music
channel shall be provided with a pre-loaded profiled and themed music
selection supplied by a Specialist Company. The final selection of themes
and genres shall be carried out in coordination with the Client. The Music
Servers shall be programmable so as to play out music tracks in a random
order with selection of tracks filtered by tempo and style. The Music
server shall be programmable for start and end time on a daily, weekly
and monthly basis.
C. Loudspeakers
2. Central control of all zones shall be available from the Headend Systems
Graphical User Interface within the AV Control Room.
A. The following section details the basic scope of works, this is to be read in
conjunction with all other sections. Specific works may be detailed elsewhere
in this document.
2. The BGM Contractor is responsible for the supply and installation of all
equipment as detailed in the design drawings and Bills of Materials for The
System. The BGM Contractor must obtain in writing explicit approval from
the Technology Consultant for any changes or substitutions to the
specification or quantity of items listed within.

B. The BGM Contractor is responsible for the supply of any BGM Systems Racks
which are not provided under the Structured Cabling Contractor’s Scope of
Works.
C. The BGM Contractor shall supply and install Category 6 and fibre Optic cabling
required to support Audio Visual device that is not supported by the Structured
Cabling System infrastructure.
E. The BGM Contractor is responsible for all coordination with the Electrical
Contractor as required to ensure the correct services are provided in the
correct locations:
F. The BGM Contractor is responsible to provide the following services, but not
limited to:
G. The BGM Contractor shall provide training on all aspects of the BGM System
and will provide as part of the Tender submission, a detailed training program.
H. BGM System wiring shall be carried out using Low Smoke Zero Halogen LSZH /
Plenum NFPA 90A compliant cable where code requires.
A. Standards
1. Codes, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the work, are as fully
part of the specifications as if herein repeated or attached. If the BGM
Contractor should note items in the drawings or the specifications,
construction of which would be code violations, promptly call them to the
attention of the Technology Consultant in writing.
B. General Requirements
1. The BGM Contractor shall seek explicit approval from the Technology
Consultant. Work on site or procurement may not start without this
approval. The final design presented by the BGM Contractor must conform
to the design intent described in this specification and on the Tender
drawings.
2. The BGM Contractor shall furnish all materials, labour and any engineering
services to provide complete and professionally installed BGM System in
working order as described herein. The BGM Contractor shall ensure
System professional services will only be carried out by suitable trained
and experienced personnel and accomplished in a best workmanship
manner, according to approved and accepted trade practices.
2. The System Components and Cables are to be stored in clean dry place,
protected from weather, dirt, fumes, water, construction debris, and any
physical damage.
3. The BGM Contractor shall at all times make available the required
personnel for any unscheduled inspection that can be requested at any
time by the Main Contractor.
1.7 WARRANTY
C. The BGM System will include for a 1-year Service/Maintenance Contract which
is over and above the 12-month warranty. The BGM Contractor will be
expected to provide an example of the Service/Maintenance Contract to the
Technology Consultant when requested. The Service/Maintenance Contract
must not be a generic document and must be specific to the Four Seasons
Hotel Jeddah Corniche.
A. The BGM Contractor shall ensure sufficient spare parts availability for
emergency replacement of any faulty component any time from project
implementation until the end of the defect’s liability period.
B. Specifications and drawings are detailed only to the extent necessary to show
design intent and signal flow. It shall be understood and agreed by the BGM
Contractor that the work herein described shall be complete in every detail so
as to provide a complete and fully functional System even though every item
necessarily involved is not specifically mentioned.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
A. Where possible, common equipment items have been used across the
different areas of The Development in order to simplify maintenance
procedures and to provide the end user with a consistent user interface
method of operation and maintenance.
C. All materials and equipment shall be new and of the latest design or model
offered for sale by the Manufacturer.
D. Equipment models provided shall operate at the required AC line voltage and
frequency.
E. The BGM Contractor must ensure that all equipment and systems are designed
and installed to provide electromagnetic compatibility within The System and
with any other systems installed in the same locations. Comply with EMC
directive 89/336/EEC.
G. All goods and services supplied under the contract shall have their origin in the
following countries: North & South America, Europe, GCC Region, ASIA Pacific,
Japan, Taiwan, Russian Federation, India, Taiwan and South Korea or in the
countries, with which The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has agreed trade
relations and no restriction of manufactured goods entry.

Lenovo etc.) with the latest specification at the time of purchase and shall
not be constructed by or proprietary to the BGM Contractor.

2.3 DISTRIBUTION
A. DSP Processors
1. Where DSP Processors are indicated in the design, the BGM Contractor is
responsible to supply either a DSP Processor, modular I/O frames or fixed
I/O modules from the same Manufacturer across The Project. It is the
BGM Contractor’s responsibility to ensure the device chosen is fit for
purpose, this includes but is not limited to processor power, input and
output quantity, network availability, control requirements and system
compatibility. Where Input and Output Quantities are specified in the
Design and Bill of Materials this is only a guide to the minimum required.
d. The Network Audio Core shall have the capability to stream from 128 x
128 up to 256 × 256 high-quality 32-bit floating point Audio channels
across the network, with less than 2.5 ms latency from analogue input
to analogue output, as well as convey control data and listen-bus
monitoring signals.
e. The System’s main components shall comprise of a centralised
processor and control core units, while peripherals may comprise of
Input/Output frames configurable for interfacing common analogue
and digital signals, including microphone and line-level Audio, Dante,
as well as analogue outputs to power amplifiers.
f. Other allowable peripherals shall be network wall-mount touchscreen
controllers, and network power amplifiers with the ability to stream
32-bit floating point Audio to and from the centralised core processor.
g. Component capabilities or performance shall not be limited by location
on the network.
h. The System shall be capable of complete redundancy, including
redundant core processors, redundant LAN structures and also,
through the use of switchover accessories, redundant amplifier and
I/O frame configuration.
i. The System shall be controllable using a customisable user control
interface via one or more PC and/or iOS devices connected
simultaneously to the network.
j. The software shall allow the operating configuration to be designed on
a PC that may or may not be connected to the network, and it shall
allow configurations to be saved as files that can be stored, backed
up, transferred via e-mail or another media.
k. The specification of the Network Audio Cores shall be as follows:
a. The control software program shall allow the creation and use of
customised computer control screens with the networked Digital Audio
Systems.
b. The software shall allow function and appearance of the graphic
control interface to be tailored to the exact needs of the user.
c. Individual or grouped sets of controls may be placed and assigned to
specific system functions, or component objects may be copied directly
from the networked Audio System design file into the control software,
resulting in completely pre-assigned control surfaces.
d. An array of drawing tools shall be provided for extensive graphic
manipulation of controls, backgrounds, and labelling.
e. Control screens may be created with the ability to easily navigate
between multiple pages of operation. Once created, a custom control
file may be downloaded into The System, where it can then be

2. All Equipment Racks and Cabinets should comply with the latest revision
of “EIA-310-D” Industry Standard for 19-inch, rack cabinets.
3. The height of the Rack shall be chosen to have 25% spare space for
future expansion.
6. Closed Racks will be used. All Racks through the building will be from the
same Manufacturer, the sizes will vary according to location.
7. Racks dimensions will be specified within the Design and Bill of Materials

2.8 CABLES
Cables shall be Low Smoke Zero Halogen LSZH/Plenum NFPA 90A compliant
where code requires.
C. Type 3A. Audio Loudspeaker Cable 70V. AWG 18 high strand count copper
twisted pair, individually insulated with Black & White jackets, 4.67mm
nominal overall diameter.
D. Type 3B. Audio Loudspeaker Cable 8Ω. AWG 16 high strand count copper
twisted pair, individually insulated with Black & White jackets, 5.28mm
nominal overall diameter.
E. Type 3C. Audio Loudspeaker Cable 8Ω AWG 14 high strand count copper
twisted pair, individually insulated with Black & White jackets, 6.6mm nominal.
F. Type 3D. Audio Loudspeaker Cable 8Ω AWG 10 high strand count copper
twisted pair, individually insulated with Black & White jackets, 9.04mm
nominal overall diameter.
H. Type 7. Control Systems and Active Speakers. One twisted pair Stranded AWG
22 copper wire with shield; one AWG 18 TC unshielded power pair, 6.35mm
nominal overall diameter.
I. Type 10. Two Audio, One Video. Combined low-loss 75 Ohm Video coaxial
cable, with double braided shield for minimum 98% coverage and high
frequency attenuation at 100 MHZ not less than Belden 8281 and two
numbers individually jacketed AWG 22 copper stranded twisted pair’s with
100%coverage foil shield and drain wire.
J. Type 12. 16 Pair Audio Snake Cable for portable applications. AWG 25
effective cross-sectional area per conductor, 16 pair star-quad twisted groups,
each group shielded with a braided shield, encased in a colour coded high flex
jacket, 47mm nominal overall diameter.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 WIRING
B. Cables and raceways used for Background Music circuits, and equipment
control wiring associated with the Background Music System, may not contain
any other wire or cable.
D. Cable Taps: Use numbered terminal strips in junction, pull and outlet boxes,
cabinets, or equipment enclosures where circuit connections are made.
G. The BGM Contractor shall install all equipment items in accordance with
Contract Drawings, Manufacturer’s instructions and approved submittal data.
I. The BGM Contractor shall install all equipment items in accordance with the
Manufacturer's instructions, and adjustments required to deliver a complete
and operable System.
K. The BGM Contractor shall obtain equipment through a single source authorised
by Manufacturer.
M. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible for coordination with various systems
under this Contract and the Contractors involved in The Project.
N. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to include and allow for all test
equipment, instruments, tools and labour required to conduct The System
tests.
O. Approved Cable Types must be used, unless otherwise called for in these
specifications and drawings.
S. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that all cables are labelled in accordance with
the method identified by the Client’s representative and shall provide a sample
of the proposed labelling method for approval prior to installation.
T. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that cables are cut to the length dictated by
the run.
U. Cable joints are not allowed anywhere within the BGM System installation.
V. The BGM Contractor shall ensure no splices are permitted in any pull boxes.
W. The BGM Contractor shall ensure that no cable is installed with a bend radius
less than that recommended by the Cable Manufacturer.
A. All Speakers and Field Equipment shall be installed in the locations specified
and agreed in the design drawings. Where onsite conditions require a move
from these spaces, approval from the Technology Consultant and Interior
Designer must be obtained.
B. All BGM Equipment must be installed level and flush with the surface they are
being mounted to.
C. All BGM Equipment located either externally or in a wet space shall be fully IP
rated or installed within an appropriate IP rated enclosure.
E. Cleaning: Remove paint splatters and other spots, dirt, and debris. Touch up
scratches and marred finish to match original finish. Clean unit internally using
methods and materials recommended by Manufacturer.
C. The BGM Contractor is responsible for providing fans, shelves, drawers, special
power wiring, earth connections, surge suppression, patch panels, patch
cords, cables, connectors and adapters of any kind necessary to accommodate
The System installation, operation, testing, or maintenance. The BGM
Contractor shall provide the appropriate factory or custom rack mount
adapters for all equipment installed in the Equipment Rack, whether
specifically itemised or not. The BGM Contractor shall cover unused slots using
blank panels.
D. Install framed instructions and zone layout in a location visible within the
Audio Visual Control and Equipment Room and within each distributed
Background Music Equipment Rack.
F. Ground all BGM equipment and associated circuits; Install a ground wire from
main service ground to BGM Racks. Ground cable shields and equipment
according to System Manufacturer's written instructions to eliminate shock
hazard and to minimise, to the greatest extent possible, ground loops,
common-mode returns, noise pickup, cross talk, and other impairments
1. The BGM Contractor shall carry out any factory acceptances tests, in
Manufacturer's factory itself, before any site delivery, in order to make
sure that the system of both hardware and software and The System after
integration of various sub-systems is able to satisfy site technical
requirements of the equipment specifications.
B. Test Plan
2. The tests are to cover every aspect related to the specifications of The
System and its operation; including, but not limited to, visual inspections,
measurements, and operation.
4. The results of the factory acceptance tests, together with any re-testing
because of failure, shall be recorded and signed by the authorised
personnel of the BGM Contractor and the Technology Consultant.
2. The BGM Contractor must provide Engineers who are familiar with The
System to assist the Technology Consultant during the acceptance testing
and equalisation for the duration of time it takes to complete the
3. Pre-testing: After installation, align, adjust, and balance The System and
perform complete pre-testing. Determine, through pre-testing, the
compliance of The System with requirements of the drawings and
specifications. Correct deficiencies observed in pre-testing. Replace
malfunctioning or damaged items with new ones, and retest until
satisfactory performance and conditions are achieved. Prepare forms for
systematic recording of acceptance test results.
h. Test both primary and secondary circuits: verify by test that the
Secondary Circuits System is capable of operating The System for the
period and in the manner specified.
i. The sound pressure level spectrum, from the program Speaker
System, in each octave band shall be ±3 db from 100 hz to 15 khz
with no greater than 2% acoustical total harmonic distortions at sound
levels of 90 dB at one meter above finish floor level.
j. The sound pressure level spectrum, from the Speech Reinforcement
System, in each octave band shall be ±3 dB from 100 hz to 10 khz
with no greater than 2% acoustical total harmonic distortions at sound
levels of 85 dbc at one meter above finish floor level.
k. Signal-to-noise ratio including cross talk: -52 dB or better.
l. The standard Audio signal level for this facility is +4dbu 0dbu = 20
logv 0.7746.
m. An Audio tone of +4dbu should produce a 0 vu reading on all properly
calibrated balanced signal meters specified in this System. Equipment
with unbalanced inputs used in this System will display 0 vu with an
input of approximately -7bdu.
n. Set standard Audio line level for interface between equipment in this
System and to external systems to +4dbu.
o. Ensure that load input impedance is either higher than or matches
source equipment output impedance. Do not connect load to source
equipment where input impedance of the former is lower than the
output impedance of the latter. Report such instances.
p. Initially adjust all System gain controls for optimum signal-to-noise
ratio. After all adjustments required to meet specification requirements
are made, measure and report the resulting System electrical signal-
to-noise ratio at the amplifier outputs from 20-20 khz in 1/3 octave
bands referenced to the voltage required to achieve 85 dB sound
pressure level at one meter above finish floor level.
q. Measure 70-volt loudspeaker/auto-transformer line impedance at the
Equipment Rack with all loudspeakers connected and the amplifiers
disconnected. Report the absolute value at 1 khz for each loudspeaker
zone.
r. Measure 8-ohm loudspeaker line impedance of the Equipment Rack
with the line connected at all loudspeakers and the amplifiers
disconnected. Report the dc line resistance for each loudspeaker.
s. System frequency response: measure the sound pressure level using a
calibrated type 1 precision sound level meter as defined by ansi s1.4.
Measure using the slow time constant. Report the "raw house curve"
with the equaliser controls set to "0." Adjust all gain controls and

t. Coverage uniformity: scan the areas served by The System and record
sound pressure level in 1/3 octave bands. Perform any necessary
adjustments to loudspeaker orientations as required to achieve the
specified uniformity.
u. Controls: adjust all controls to achieve the specified performance.
Provide shaft-locks or covers for all level controls, as appropriate to
prevent unauthorised gain changes.
11. Tag all equipment, stations, and other components at which tests have
been satisfactorily completed.
12. The BGM Contractor shall be responsible to replace and make operational
all damaged equipment/accessories, if any, which are part of existing,
while connecting to existing system.
D. Occupancy Adjustments
C. Training shall also be provided for fire service personnel: supervisors FCC
attendants.
D. Training manuals and technology training for all systems shall be in English
unless otherwise requested in the Main Contract.
F. The BGM Contractor shall provide a minimum of 10, two-hour formal training
sessions for all operating and supervisory personnel upon the completion of
the installation.
G. Prior to the training sessions, the BGM Contractor shall provide preliminary
copies of The System’s Operating Instructions as instructional aids.
