General Erection Guidline
General Erection Guidline
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
Prior to start -of-day operation, the equipment shall be inspected by operator to ensure that the
principal components are in acceptable condition . If any defects are identified that could affect the
performances or safe operation of the equipment; it shall immediately be brought to the attention
of the Erection Foreman who shall correct the problem.
It is the duty of the operator to inspect his equipment daily when lifting operations are to take
place. The inspection includes but is not limited to:
Drip trays and spills kits shall be used for oil leaks in case of any repairs.
The windows and door of the cab are closed and locked.
3. PLANNING LIFTING OPERATIONS AND DAILY PERMIT
All lifting operations involving lifting equipment shall be properly planned by a competent person,
appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.
Person planning the operation shall have adequate practical, theoretical knowledge,
Experience in planning in lifting operation and shall conduct a Tool Box Talk with the
persons who are involving in the lifting operation.
Job safety analysis shall be carried out to identify all potential risks associated with the
lifting operation.
The plan shall address the risk identified by the risk assessment and identify the
resources required, the procedure and the responsibilities so that any lifting operation is
carried out safely.
The plan shall ensure that the lifting equipment remain safe for the range of lifting
operations for which the equipment might be used.
A lifting Permit should be submitted by the person in charge before lifting and signed by
Safety officer and approved by Contractor before any lifting start.
To be lifted, its weight, shape, centre of gravity, availability of lifting points etc.
Where the load is presently positioned and where it will be positioned after the lifting
operations.
How often the Lifting Equipment will be used to carry out the task.
The plan shall address the various weather conditions that could have an effect on the
integrity of the equipment or expose person to danger, which may mean that lifting
operations have to be stopped .e.g. excessive wind speed. Poor visibility due to mist
or fog etc.
The plan shall ensure that there is adequate site access and egress for the lifting
equipment. Consideration should be given to whether there would be sufficient space to
safely position and install the equipment, for example to put out any outriggers.
2. EQUIPMENTS, TACKLES AND TOOLS
Only third party certified and stamped equipment shall be used for lifting operations.
3. METHODOLOGY
Permit shall be obtained and approved by Main contractor prior to any work and out on place
All necessary equipment’s and tools to carry out the work and erection shall be identified and checked
by concerned personnel and mobilize to the location.
The erection Foreman shall be responsible for the safety of the lifting operation and only signal man to
direct the lifting operation.
Alignment and Levelling After erection levels shall be checked.
All erection records will be maintained in prescribed forms.
Installation, alignment, levelling and bolt tightening records shall be covered under site ITP which
shall be checked and monitored by QA/QC Engineer.
Inspection shall be carried out as per approved ITP.
All installation procedure is shown in the attached presentation slides; however, major parts will be
illustrated here for more details
4. SITE PREPARATION
All levels & Gridlines shall be checked with the contractor and coordinates shall be verified
as per issued for construction drawings.
Area for erection to be cleared of any obstruction.
Prior to erection of steel structure a joint inspection for bolt setting shall be carried out by Erector
Supervisor along with the contractor. Checking shall be made on bolts centre to centre distance,
pitch distance, position of bolt and any damages to threaded portion. All bolts level and projections
shall be checked and recorded. After Inspection and the threads to be cleaned, greased and protect
with masking tape.
5. BOLT TIGHTENING
Bolting tightening activities shall be done after completion of alignment of the specified area. All
bolts, nuts and washers shall be as per IFC drawings and project specification
Bolt holes of the mating surface shall be aligned. Lateral alignment shall be checked by ensuring
that bolts can be inserted without force and that the alignment tool is not required to affect a
significant force to achieve alignment. Special care shall be taken to assure proper seating of
the structure within allowable tolerances. Bolts shall be tightened and inspected for tightness in
accordance with ITP.
Bolts will be tightened using hand held spanners and/ or impact pneumatic wrenches.
• The tightened bolts shall be marked and shall be ensured that at least 1 to 2 bolt threads is
projected from the nut side.
• The bolts shall be verified for the torque according to the recommended loads with
calibrated torque wrenches. Refer enclosed bolt torque table.
• Sequence of bolts tightening and torque shall be carried out in accordance with provided
plan which shall be monitored by QA/QC Engineer.
• Check bolts for correct length, diameter and material grade. Bolts are installed in one
direction with thread on one side. Bolt grade punch to be visible
All the connections will be a bearing type connection and the Bolts shall tightened to the Snug tight
condition. The snug tight condition is defined as the tightness that exists when all plies in the joint
are in Firm contact. This may be attained by few impacts from an impact wrench or the full effort of a
man using an ordinary wrench.
5. SAFETY
All personal involved in works shall be aware of safety requirements of the project.
