Part II: Program Description

A. Rationale
Alternative Learning System (ALS) provides opportunities for out-of-
school-youth (OSY) and out-of-school adult (OSA) learners to develop basic
and functional literacy skills and to access equivalent pathways for complete
basic education. ALS K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) was
introduced to our ALS learners to provide an opportunity to finish basic
education curriculum up to Senior High School (DO 13, s.2019: Policy
Guidelines on the Implementation of Enhanced ALS 2.0), which mandates
the inclusion of the SHS level in the ALS Program which is equivalent to
Grade 11 and 12.
B. Brief Description of the Program
ALS-SHS is implemented in Surigao del Sur Division involving
several schools to help many of our out-of-school youths and adults who
cannot attend regular classes. Learners who wish to pursue higher education
must take the core competencies on top of the specializations of senior high
school. About the simple survey on learners who are to proceed in higher
education, ALS SHS in <Name of School> will commence offering Academic
Track in Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), and
Humanities and Social Sciences (HumSS) Strands. This ensures that ALS
learners of <Name of Barangay/Municipality> will be equipped with
competencies required for employment, entrepreneurship, middle-level skills,
and tertiary education.
