GUIDE QUESTIONS

The researchers are currently taking Research 431 course, in line with this as

part of the course requirement this research has been conducted. The research is

entitled “A Phenomenological Study of AFP Female Officers in Combat Operations”.

Its purpose is to determine the experiences of female Armed Forces of the

Philippines officers in leading combat operations during their field years.

1. In handling people in the field of military men, what kind of leadership style

do you usually apply during combat operations?

2. How do you execute the conduct of combat operations under your

leadership?

3. What are the challenges have you experienced in combat operations?

- Physical aspect?

- Handling people?

- Treatment of people?

- personal challenges (in home)

- controversial challenges (sexual related challenges)

- dominancy challenges

- testing capability of leadership of women

4. How would you able to cope on those challenges?

5. What are the restrictions and limitations on females that you have

observed based on the AFP Rules and Regulations, and also in your

working environment that you want to address to strengthen the capability

of females to be a combat operator?

Greetings! The undersigned would like to invite you to participate in this study. This
form is intended to provide you with information about the study, your role as a
participant, and the risks and benefits associated with participation in this study.
Please read this information carefully and take the time to ask any questions you
may have before deciding whether or not to participate in the study.
Background:
This study is a requirement in the course Management Research in Security Studies
under the degree Bachelor of Science in National Security Management. The aim of
this study is to determine the experiences of female Armed Forces of the Philippines
officers in leading combat operations during their field years.
Procedures:
If you choose to participate in this study, an interview with you will be scheduled at
your most convenient time. The interview will last no longer than an hour and thirty
minutes (1 hr 30 mins). The interview will also be recorded however rest assured
that measures will be undertaken to prevent you from being inconvenienced and also
to protect your identity as a participant.
Voluntary Nature of Participation:
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You have the right to refuse to
participate or to withdraw from the study at any time without any negative
consequences. Refusal to participate or withdrawal from the study will not affect your
current or future relationships with the researcher or any of the organizations
involved in the study.
Potential Benefits:
Your participation in this study will be invaluable. Moreover, the study hopes that you
will fully give your insights and perceptions on your experiences in the combat
operations that will help the AFP’s future training and operation system
Potential Risks:
There is a very small chance that talking about your experiences will stir up
unexpressed emotions and feelings. However, such risk may be very small and
counseling measures may be accorded to you in case you feel that you need to go
through such a session. A referral to the PRC accredited counseling centers will be
made. The counseling fee will be the responsibility of the researchers.
Confidentiality:
All information collected during the study will be kept strictly confidential. Your
personal information will not be disclosed to anyone without your consent. Your
study data will be identified only by a code name, not by your name.
