INTRODUCTION
ACADEMIC WRITING
a) Plagiarism
i) What is Plagiarism?
Any written assignment (essays, project, take-home exams, etc) submitted by
a student must not be deceptive regarding the abilities, knowledge, or amount
of work contributed by the student. There are many ways that this rule can be
violated. Among them are:
o Outright plagiarism: Large sections of the paper are simply copied from
other sources, and are not acknowledged as quotations.
Please refer to the guide which is available on [MyPLS > Plagiarism Checker
> Student Guide].
b) Documenting Sources
Direct
Simply having a thinking skill is no assurance that children will
use it. In order for such skills to become part of day-to-day
behaviour, they must be cultivated in an environment that value
and sustains them. “Just as children’s musical skills will likely lay
fallow in an environment that doesn’t encourage music, learner’s
thinking skills tend to languish in a culture that doesn’t encourage
thinking” (Tishman, Perkins and Jay, 1995, p.5)
Indirect
According to Wurman (1988), the new disease of the 21st century
will be information anxiety, which has been defined as the ever-
widening gap between what one understands and what one
thinks one should understand.

c) Referencing

end of your paper. Here’s how you should do your Reference.

Objective:
Conduct a small study titled:
Instructions:
Selection of a Setting:
Choose a public setting where people naturally gather and interact, such as a
park, shopping mall, public transportation station, playground or a coffee shop.
Research Question:
Formulate a clear and focused research question that you aim to answer
through your observations. E.g., “How do individuals engage with their
surroundings at a local park?”
Ethical Considerations:
Since you are observing people without their explicit consent, it is
important to focus on public spaces and avoid collecting any identifiable
information.
Remain unobtrusive in your observations to avoid influencing the
behavior of the people you are observing.
Data Collection:
Spend about 60 to 90 minutes in your chosen setting, actively observing
and taking detailed field notes.
Pay attention to verbal and non-verbal cues, group dynamics, and the
general atmosphere of the setting.
Use a notebook or a digital device to take notes.

Data Analysis:
After collecting the data, categorise your observations into themes or
patterns.
Analyse the data by identifying common behaviors, interactions, or
expressions noted during the observation period.
