TRAINING/SEMINAR/CONFERENCE: 48th PICE National Convention and Technical Conference on

November 11 and 12, 2022 at SMX Convention Center, 3rd level, SM City Bacolod, Bishop Antonio Y.
Fortich Avenue, Bacolod City, but attended online.

DATE: November 11 & 12, 2022

DESCRIPTION: 48th PICE National Convention and Technical Conference

OBJECTIVE: The lecture will focus on the theme “Civil Engineering and its Specializations:
Responding to our New Normal and Foreseeing our Future”.

NARRATIVE REPORT:
1st day: The 48th PICE National Convention and Technical Conference started with the cutting of
ribbons from the entrance. And followed by the presentation of the different attendees,
personages, and presidents, from different chapters. Introducing the speakers of the said
event and acknowledging the sponsors from Davies, Boysen, and Negros Occidental
chapter.
The Technical Conference will include topics on the state-of-the-art Civil Engineering
technologies related to the seven (7) specialty divisions of PICE, namely: Project
Management and Construction Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural
Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental & Energy
Engineering, and Civil Engineering Education.
Next is the lecture on earthquake aftershocks as of September 20, 2022, as per record by
DOST- PHILVOLCS on the total number of recorded, plotted, and felt earthquakes and their
magnitude. Including earthquake hazards, landslides, and sea level disturbance(seiche/
Tsunami)observed in the coastal areas of Ilocos Sur and La Union. Also, it discussed
building topology, building type, and survey of damaged buildings/structures in Ilocos Sur.

2nd day: The second day was full of lectures and presentations on research in civil engineering
technology. The topics included were the relative importance index of sustainable housing
techniques/parameters from the perspective of housing inhabitants and industry
professionals, road safety management which focuses on strengthening and
institutionalizing road safety governance adherence to international agreements; adoption
of global best practices in road safety. Also, on Conventional earthquake-resistant design, a
study case on design with dampers, and soil reinforcement. And case study on tank farm
facility in Batangas. Lastly, on plastic waste flow analysis in three select ports of the
Philippines. The solid waste management system and waste flow analysis are useful to
determine the targets for plastic leakage reduction.
LEARNING/INSIGHTS: A lot of lessons were learned during the conference, especially on the
environment. We have been showcased with different and effective methods in solid waste
management. Advanced computer programs are used in analyzing the different data that they
gather on the ground and making models for effective management and application. This will be a
great avenue for Civil Engineers to earn the continuing professional development units required by
RA 10912 (CPD Law).

APPLICATION: The lectures imparted additional ideas and inputs to be used in our subjects
specifically in Water Resources Engineering, Environment and Education.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: The participants will be able to demonstrate or illustrate various updates
in the fields of Water Resources Engineering, Environment and Education.
