Re. Prof Ahmed M. Makeen, PhD FRCP

This is to testify to the credentials and experience of Professor Ahmed M. Makeen who is currently a staff member of the
College of Medicine, the International University of Africa, Khartoum.

Prof Makeen joined the College of Medicine in the year 2002 as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine. Before joining us
he was working as consultant Physician Endocrinologist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre at Jeddah, KSA.
His qualifications include:

 MB BS Khartoum University 1973

 PhD Human Physiology, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom 1980
 Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) London 1982
 Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) Edinburgh 1997
In the year 2004 the University Senate has granted Dr Makeen Professorship of Internal Medicine and appointed as Head
Department of Internal Medicine for a period of 5 years.

Prof Makeen’s main academic duties included teaching undergraduate medical students in the form of lectures, clinical
rounds, tutorials, and groups teaching sessions.

He supervised PhD and MSc degree postgraduate students in Basic sciences and Pharmacy.

The college of Medicine’s teaching hospitals are Ibrahim Malik Hospital and Khartoum Civil Hospital. Both are the main
tertiary referral hospitals in Khartoum State. Dr Makeen’s clinical and teaching duties in both hospitals included:

 Once weekly Internal medicine Referred Outpatient clinic.

 Once weekly Endocrine and Diabetes Referred Outpatient clinic.
 Once weekly (3rd on Call) Emergency Department session.
 Once weekly unit ward round (House officers, Registrars) as busyness and teaching activity.
 Monthly departmental Audit and Mortality meeting.
 Monthly Hospital clinical meeting for cases presentation that is attended by all units in Internal medicine and other
hospital medical staff.
In addition to his college duties, Prof Makeen has had a recognized role in doctors training and guidance at the national level
in the following:

 He is the founder of the Fellowship of Endocrine and Metabolism at the Sudan Medical Specialization Board in the
year 2017 and chaired its council for the first 2 years.
 He is the co-founder and current Chaiman of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Sudan Medical
Council.
Prof Makeen has been recognized by all his Colleagues, University and College administration and Students as an icon of
decency, knowledge, and self-respect. His great sense of humor and willingness to help others is exemplary. I heartly wish
him the best in all his endeavors.
