Cleaning the equipment regularly can reduce Bit Error Rate (BER), fault rate, and board
failure rate by improving the heat dissipation capability of the equipment.

l 1. If possible, power off the equipment, detach the boards and components from the
equipment following the specified procedure, and then fully clean each part of the equipment.

l 2. If it is not allowed to power off the equipment, clean the power-on equipment with one of
the following methods whenever applicable:
Ø a. Spray-wash the equipment first, and then wash it with a water gun.

• This method is applicable when a lot of dust covers the equipment. Operation procedure: Spray the cleaner on the
equipment, wait until the cleaner infiltrates the dirt to insulate the dirt particles and the floating dust deposits, and then,
wash the equipment with a water gun.

15
Cleaning the Equipment
Ø b. Clean the equipment from top to bottom.

• This method is applicable when the equipment contamination is not serious.

Ø c. Clean the equipment from bottom to top.

• This method is applicable when the equipment contamination is serious. It prevents dirt accumulation on the equipment.

Ø d. Collect the dirt between layers and at the bottom.

• This method is applicable during the entire procedure of cleaning the power-on equipment.

• Operation procedure: Insert antistatic papers between each shelf and above the

• cabinet bottom, clean the equipment layer by layer, and extract all the papers.

Ø e. Clean narrow gaps.

• This method is used to clean a board that has a 3-5 mm gap from other boards or the equipment.

• Operation procedure: Insert the extension pipe of a special spray gun or a handheld pressure sprayer into the gap, and spray-wash
the board sides.

16
Cleaning the Equipment
Ø f. Clean boards without gaps.

• This method is used to clean boards that do not have gaps from other boards or the equipment.

• Operation procedure: Insert the extension pipe of a special spray gun into the gap between shelves, and spray-wash the board sides.

Ø g. Clean the fan.

• Operation procedure: Take out the Radio Fan Asset (RFA) board of the Indoor Unit (IDU) rack, and clean the dirt, to ensure the fan to
operate properly.

Ø CAUTION

• To reduce the maintenance risk, prepare a standby board before you take out the fan board.

• Replace the fan board according to the replacement process. Clean the removed board after the standby board run properly.

• It is strictly prohibited to run the cabinet equipment without fan board.

Maintaining the Equipment Room Environment

n The equipment room environment includes all the conditions that influence the
equipment operation in the equipment room, such as temperature, humidity, and dust.

n Equipment room environment maintenance protects the equipment from adverse

environmental factors.
l 1. Keep a vacuum cleaner in the equipment and clean dust in the equipment periodically.

Ø Operation procedure: Use a blower to blow away the dust on the equipment surface, and use absolute
alcohol to wash the equipment surface. It is recommended to put a thin layer of heat-conductive silicon
oil on the components exposed in the air.

18
Maintaining the Equipment Room Environment

l 2. Take antistatic measures to protect the equipment.

Ø Operation procedure: Keep a certain humidity inside the equipment room, prevent the accumulation of static
electricity, and keep good contact between the grounding cable and the equipment.

l 3. Verify that the air conditioner in the equipment room is operating properly, and keep the
temperature inside the equipment room within the range from 15 °C to 35 °C.

l 4. Keep the humidity inside the equipment room within the range from 20% to 80%, and take
waterproof and dampproof measures for the equipment in the rainy season.

Performing the Loopback Test

n Loopback is the process of an NE's transmitting a signal from its transmit port and
receiving the signal from its receive port. The loopback test helps detect the
transmission link problems.

n Through the loopback operation, maintenance personnel can locate NE faults along the
communication link section by section. It helps check the operating status of each node
and the transmission link, and rapidly locates the faulty NEs and faulty boards, which
facilitates equipment commissioning and debugging.

n In the WEB LMT system, users can set radio link loopbacks (including RF inner
loopback and IF loopback), Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) loopback, and Ethernet
loopback.
