Case # 6: “More Than Just Casinos”

Way back thousands of years ago, we actually have stories and parables that
depicts how good deeds and intentions to people matters. It actually tells us that the
more we give and do good things a hundred folds will be back to us. Thus, people
may not always see it but since then it was actually noted that we Filipinos are
bonded by these beliefs. From ancient time till present, we Filipinos do believe of
doing our very good to others. It has been us who are known for being kind and soft
hearted. We like to help and we welcome people with warm hearts. We like to take
risk for the people that matters to us. We are not afraid of the consequences of our
actions but as long as it is for the betterment of the people that means to us.

Engaging in activities like gambling is never a good thing, however, the issue
of this PAGCOR, lotto and many more gambling activities but somehow give back to
people by aiding in the activity of the government in their various projects. It is not
actually morally upright since the money is from gambling. No matter how we look
at it, even though it is aiding the government in its mission to provide for the
welfare of its people, the money is actually from the people who do not worked hard
rather they just depend on their luck. The people engaging themselves on such
things clearly want to have easy money. They do not want to use their energy on
working hard to earn for a living rather they just want to have money in a blink of
an eye. What they actually want is to enjoy themselves but however engaging in this
activity causes trouble. At times, people resort to killing because of this. Losing in
this game affect their ego at the same time affects their relationship with their fellow
gambler. They would always want to win and never lose.

As gambling is concerned, it never really causes good thing to people. Aside

from the fact that it teaches them to become lazy, it also teaches them to become
greedy and boastful. And engaging in this activity has been prohibited because even
in some localities, people do not realize that at times it is one of the many reasons
why crimes are very rampant. Being addictive to this, causes many people to commit
crimes and other heinous things to their fellow being.

The main purpose of this gambling is actually for personal interests. The
portions that they are actually giving to the government are just minimal but
however the effects to the people are of large scale. It is indeed true that things that
are most likely illegal can never be morally upright, being root of evil things and
giving back in return does not mean the same thing at all. It is never right to do bad
and wrong things to others and just give or help to charities just to get even. Wrong
is clearly different from right so we should always learn ourselves to engage on
things that are more worthwhile.
