W hen designing a book to print on press, the right-hand title page is first. The last page is a left-
hand page. Other files are separate; cover or cover wrap, dust jacket, endpapers (if printed).
If your book has a printed cover wrap or a dust jacket, we will provide a guide including the spine
width of your book, after page count is determined. Go to page 1 to start.

Bleed
RED LINE: The bleed is the three sides of a page that are trimmed off. Books are printed on press,
often in 8 or 16-page signatures, not a page at a time. If there is art extending off the page, it
“bleeds”. The bleed is 0.125”, or 3 mm. A bleed is only necessary when art is to be printed off the
trim size.

Trim
BLUE DASHED LINE: This line indicates the actual trimmed page size.

Margin
MAGENTA LINE: This is set to 0.5”. Adjust in InDesign menu: “Layout > Margins and Columns”.

We print quality books. Safety area is not necessary. Bleeds add no cost to Asia quotes.

COLOR MODE – CMYK, NOT RGB

All images need to be in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK). These are the 4 trays of ink
used for process color printing on press. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is for digital display devices.
You may use Pantone colors, either as a CMYK screen build, or a spot ink. A spot ink means
that another ink is put on the press. This will change your quote. A work around is a CMYK
screen build. It might look like the spot ink, or not. We can advise you.

RESOLUTION – 300 PPI – SIZED AT 100%

The resolution needs to be a minimum of 300 dpi or ppi (dots per inch, or pixels per inch) or
greater. The image must be at the size it will be when it is printed (100%), or larger.
