Experiment No.1

Measurement

Objective: To measure the dimensions of an object using a ruler, calculate its volume and its total
surface area.

Materials: rectangular parallelepiped, closed cylindrical can, pipe or tube, ruler

Procedure:

1. Measure the length, width, and thickness of the rectangular parallelepiped in inches and
centimeter reading. Calculate for its volume and total surface area.
2. Measure the diameter and height of the can. Calculate for its volume and total surface.
3. Measure the outer diameter and inner diameter and the length of the pipe. Calculate its volume
and total surface area exposed to the weather.

Table 1: Rectangular Parallelepiped

Dimensions inches centimeter

Length 7 inches 17.78 cm
Width 4 inches 10.16 cm
Thickness 3 inches 7.62 cm

Table 2: Closed Cylindrical Can

Dimensions inches centimeter

Diameter 2.8 inches 7.11 cm
Height 5 inches 12.7 cm

cu. Inches cu. cm.
Rectangular Parallelepiped
Closed Cylindrical Can

Calculations:
1. Rectangular Parallelepiped:
Volume: 84 cu. Inches Total Surface Area : 1,376.5 cu. cm

2. Closed Cylindrical Can:

Volume: 30.79 cu. Inches Total Surface Area: 504.52 cu. cm

3. Pipe or Tube:
Volume: Total Surface Area Exposed to the
Weather:
Observation:
I have Observed that in getting The volume all you have to do is Multiply the Values and for the
surface area multiply the values and multiply again by 2 to get the Surface area.

Conclusion: There for i Conclude That for us to obtain the Surface area we just have to multiply
by 2 the product of multiplying the values for the Volume.
