INTERTYPE COMPETITION

1. Definition

- Intertype competition is competition between different types of firms at the same channel level, such
as the off-price store versus the department store or the merchant wholesaler versus agents and
brokers.

2. Example :

- Traditional Shopping Centers (malls and retail stores) and E-commerce Websites (Shopee, Lazada,...)

+ Traditional Shopping Centers : They have had to adapt by creating innovative marketing campaigns,
enhancing the in-store shopping experience, and expanding their services to attract customers.

+ E-commerce Websites : They have intensified competition by offering discounts, promotions, and
convenient delivery services.

- Competition between Movie Theaters (CGV, LotteCinema,...) and Online Streaming Services (Neflix,
Disney+,...)

+ Movie Theaters : To compete, they have sought ways to enhance the movie-watching experience in
theaters, such as offering amenities like dining, comfortable seating, and premium audio and visual
technology.

+ Online Streaming Services : providing extensive libraries of films and television programs, as well as
the ability to watch anytime, anywhere through the internet. They compete by producing exclusive
content and offering reasonably priced service packages.

- Competition between Restaurants and Online Food Delivery Services (GrabFood, Now.vn, and GoFood)

+ Restaurants : They have had to consider expanding their services to keep up with the revolution in
how consumers shop for food.

+ Online Food Delivery Services : They have created a convenient platform for consumers to order food
from restaurants and food stores. This has spurred competition among these services to attract more
consumers and the restaurants listed on their apps.
