Manipal Hackathon M# brings together the brightest
minds in technology. As we gear up for 2023's edition,
we're thrilled to announce an enticing 3 lakhs prize pool
that awaits the champions of creativity and coding
excellence. The theme "Empowering Ingenuity" aims to
ignite a spirit of innovation and nurture the creative
genius within each participant. This is your chance to
transform your wildest ideas into real-world solutions.

BASIC GUIDELINES AND ELIGIBILITY
Only students pursuing their Undergraduate or Postgraduate courses in any field of Engineering can
participate in the hackathon.
A bonafide student certificate and a valid college ID are mandatory.
A team of 2-5 people is mandatory to participate in the hackathon.
The team members can be from different academic levels (years/programs) but belong to the same
college.
Students currently enrolled in Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses may also team up with each
other.
Once a team has registered, any changes in the team members will not be entertained.
A participant can be a part of only one team during the entire course of the hackathon.
Parents, Mentors, or guardians would not be allowed to accompany the qualified teams for the Final
Round held offline
Note: Teams are not supposed to disclose their institute name or logo at any point during the hackathon (Except
while registering for the competition). This would be to ensure judgement purely based on the solutions presented.

1. Round 1: Problem-Solving and Thought Process Evaluation (Online)

The PowerPoint presentation, adhering to the format provided in the rulebook, will serve as a visual aid for the
panel of judges to get an insight of proposed solution. Participants must effectively communicate their ideas,
methodologies, and potential outcomes. Clarity, coherence, and logical flow in the presentation will be
essential criteria for evaluation. Additionally, participants should ensure that their presentations are visually
engaging and professionally designed.

2. Round 2: 36-Hour Coding Challenge (offline: MIT Manipal campus)

The second round will be the ultimate test of the shortlisted teams' technical skills and ability to apply their
problem-solving approach in a real-time scenario. This round will be a 36-hour coding challenge, during which
teams will have to code, implement, and present their solutions. Teams would be required to stay in the
premises of venue for the whole duration of the round.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
1. The Uniqueness of the Idea (10 points):
·Originality:
Judges will evaluate whether the idea presented is genuinely unique and not a copy or replication of existing
solutions. A fresh and innovative concept will score higher in this category.
·Creativity:
The team's ability to think out of the box and present a novel approach to the problem will be considered. A
more creative solution will receive higher points

2. Feasibility of the Solution (20 points):


·Viability:
Judges will assess whether the proposed solution is practical and realistic. A well-thought-out plan that
addresses the problem's key challenges effectively will score higher in this category.
·Practicality:
The team's ability to present a solution that can be implemented within the given constraints will be evaluated.
A feasible project plan will earn more points.
·Implementation:
The potential for the project to reach a stage of practical implementation will be considered. A well-defined
roadmap and achievable milestones will receive higher scores.

3. Relevance to the Theme (10 points):


.Theme Alignment:
Judges will examine how closely the idea aligns with the central theme of the competition. A solution that
directly addresses the theme's core objectives will score higher in this category.
·Inclusivity:
The team's approach to making their solution inclusive, considering diverse perspectives and potential
beneficiaries, will be evaluated. A more inclusive project will receive higher points.
·Progress Toward Goal:
The extent to which the presented prototype brings the project closer to achieving the overarching goal of the
competition will be assessed.

4. Marketing / Media Ideas (5 points):


.Outreach Strategy:
Judges will consider the team's plan for marketing and promoting their solution to the target audience. A well-
defined marketing strategy with clear outreach methods will receive higher scores.
·Target Audience:
The team's understanding of the intended audience and how they plan to engage them will be evaluated. A
well-defined target audience and suitable engagement tactics will earn more points.

·Real-World Applicability:
The potential for the prototype to thrive and make an impact in the real world, considering marketing and
media efforts, will be taken into account

5. Following of the Format (5 points):

·Adherence to Rules:
Judges will assess how well the team has followed the prescribed format for submission, including the
abstract and PowerPoint presentation. Meeting all the format requirements will earn higher points.

NOTE: The judging criteria for Round 2 would be communicated to the qualifying teams upon the conclusion of
Round 1 and declaration of Results for the same.
