MIXED CONCEPTS MARKS: 40 MARKS

FORM 1 TIME:1 HOUR

1. A square room is covered by a number of whole rectangular slabs of sides 60cm and 30cm.
Calculate the least possible area of the room in square meters. (3 marks)

2. Three tractors each working eight hours a day can plough a field in five days. How many days
would two such tractors working 10 hours a day take to plough the same field (3marks)

3. Increase the numbers given below in the ratio in the brackets (3marks)
(a) 200 (3:2)

(b) divide 1500 in the ratio 3:2

4. The price of an article increased by 20% in the first week of August and then decreased
by 20% in the second week of the same month. Find its price at the end of the second
week of August if its initial price was Kshs 500, (3marks)

a. Calculate
i. The surface area of the solid (4marks)

ii. The volume of the solid (3marks)

b. Given that the solid has a mass of 1540kg, find the density of the solid in g/cm3

7. A farmer had 540 bags of maize each having a mass of 112kg. If the mass of the maize
decreased in the ratio 15:16 after drying it;
a) Calculate the total mass lost after the maize was dried. (3marks)

b) A trader bought and repacked the dried maize in 90kg bags. He transported the maize in
a lorry which could carry a maximum of 120 bags per trip.
i. Determine the number of trips the lorry made. (4marks)

ii. The buying price of a 90kg bag of maize was Kshs 1,500. The trader paid Kshs 2,500
per trip to the market. He sold the maize and made a profit of 26%. Calculate the
selling price of each bag of the maize. (3marks)
