Personal Reflection

Kyle McLaren Block A

Sept 26, 2023

In September 2023, I started a reputable shoe selling business with my longtime hockey
friend. We wanted to start it because we were both very into style and shoes, so we decided we
could earn some money by selling to people around the lower mainland. We started off by
advertising our Instagram account, where we would sell, but then it got banned. So it took a lot
of problem solving, but since then we decided to make our own website, and we’ve done so. It's
not published yet, but its going very well. Even though we don’t have our website up yet, we still
get many orders from lots and lots of people. By doing this, I have taken on a huge responsibility
and need to commit myself to it in order for it to succeed.
I have developed skills to be my own salesman and taught myself how to promote a
product in person or online to different customers. It’s taught me the importance of
organizational skills. I use Google Sheets to keep track of all our sales, and I have created a
whole table with different colors for different things and more. With that also come the math
skills needed to keep track of the money spent and profited; it's hard to keep track sometimes.
I realize that in the future, this can be a very effective side hustle off my main job, where
I can make a little extra money even just to cover my gas. It also helps grow my connections
with people around the lower mainland, as I will be selling to them, which could be some very
important connections; they could be useful when eventually I want to have my own electrical
business.
