Informed Consent Form: IELTS for UKVI Home Office Security Clearance

Purpose and procedure

As a person undertaking an IELTS for UKVI role, it is a mandatory and contractual requirement for you
to have full security clearance from the Home Office 1.

This document is both for your information and to confirm whether you consent to the use of your
personal information being used to enable the Home Office to perform a security clearance check.

Once you confirm consent, you will be asked to provide some personal details. This information will then
be securely submitted to the Home Office for processing. You are not permitted to support the delivery
of IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills test sessions until confirmation is received that you have satisfactorily
passed security clearance.

For Speaking Examiners, Test Centre Managers and Test Day Supervisors: If you do not pass
security clearance, or refuse to provide consent, you will not be authorised to examine/work for the
IELTS for UKVI and/or IELTS Life Skills tests for the remainder of this concession. This does not affect
any examining/marking/work you conduct for IELTS.

For OSM Writing examiners and Clerical Markers: As our OSM systems randomly apportion all test
materials (IELTS for UKVI and IELTS), if you do not pass security clearance, or refuse to provide
consent, you cannot work on IELTS, and your contract will be withdrawn.

Confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation Notice (GDPR)

By providing British Council with sensitive information about yourself, you consent to the data being
shared with the Home Office to enable the completion of the required security clearance checks.

The information you provide will be kept by the British Council and Home Office for the length of the
IELTS for UKVI contract, and for a further three years after the contract is terminated. All data you
provide will be treated confidentially and stored on secure systems accessible only by authorized SELT
personnel.

The Home Office will only use your personal information to complete baseline security clearance
checks, as contractually required.

Under UK Data Protection law, you have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold on you,
and the right to ask us to correct any inaccuracies in that information. If you want more information about
this please contact your local British Council office or see our website: www.britishcouncil.org/privacy
