Laboratory Exercise 4

Irrigation Plot Trial

Name: BALOYO, RICA MAY T. Date Submitted: November 2, 2022

I. Introduction (5pts)

Providing enough water for plants helps them to develop and hasten their growth. In
contrast, water stress should avoid lessening the physical impacts of plants that reacts for
their capacity to develop and survive.

II. Objectives
The objectives of this laboratory exercise include:
a) Realize the importance of irrigation for crop production

III. Discussion
1. Number of leaves and height data of plants

Based on observation, the plant height in Treatment 4 started to develop on the 11th day
of data collection. However, the 4th leaf started to develop only after 16th day of data collection
due to water-stress (https://www.frontiersin.org).

development of succeeding leaves.

3. Graph and analysis of height of Plant (25pts)

a. Treatment 1

The data shows a gradual increase in plant height from the 4th day measuring 3.22 cm with
accumulated height of 11.04 cm in the 20th day of data collection.
b. Treatment 2

The data shows a gradual increase in plant height from the 4th day measuring 3.41 cm with
accumulated height of 10.69 cm in the 20th day of data collection.

c. Treatment 3

The data shows a gradual increase in plant height from the 4th day measuring 3.21 cm with
accumulated height of 10.25 cm in the 20th day of data collection.

e. Treatment 5

Based on observation, the height of the plants initially increases on the 3rd and 4th day of
data collection and started to decrease its height after 7th day and finally died on the 9th day due

V. Summary (5pts)

Based to the experiment, Treatment 1 showed a significant data on growth and

development with an accumulated plant height of 11.04 cm and five (5) numbers of leaves on
the 2oth day of data collection. While the Treatment 2 and 3 indicated an almost similar
result. However, Treatment 5 did not survive after 8th day of data collection due to lack of
water. In addition, Treatment 6 showed an erratic growth in a specific period as observed in
a small difference in the plant height as believed associated to insufficient supply of water
because there is no rain (Annex A). A grown plant requires 2.36 liters per day water to sustain
its growth and development. Thus, the application of 500ml (Treatment 1) water per pot is
enough for the plants to grow. If producing high-quality products is your priority, your farm
needs to be properly irrigated, and you shouldn't rely solely on rainfall for water supply.
