The Heroism of Bernando Carpio

Summarization
During the spanish occupation in the philippines, there was a poor couple who lived at
the foot of the Rizal Mountains. They were dedicated Christians who showed examples of
benevolence, industry, and godliness. God eventually granted their desire to have a child. They
named the child Bernardo Carpio after a famous Spanish warrior, Bernardo del Carpio.
Bernardo showed extraordinary strength even at an early age. Bernardo never thought
twice about helping someone in need. One afternoon while hunting alone, he rescued a horse
from falling off a cliff. Like Bernardo the horse soon showed extraordinary strength and speed.
He later named it Hagibis.
The reign of Spain soon turned into despicable cruelty, and the Filipinos were
determines to fight under the leadership of Bernardo. The spaniards knew how easily they
could be defeated by Bernardo. Thus they decided to trap it they made a deal with the witch
they were trying to exorcist.
Bernardo was made to believe that the Spanish government was willing to listned to the
pleas of the Filipinos. He was supposed to meet the Spanish leaders and had to passs through
an eerie dark cave where the wizard was waiting a pair of boulders. The wizard used his magic
to make the two boulders clash while Bernardo was in between them.
Hagibis hurried on his way back to the lowland to inform the men of Bernardo’s
predicament. But the horse neigh was not enough to convey them. When the men noticed that
Bernardo has been gone for a long time. They followed hagibis towards the cave and saw two
boulders clashing and sumrised that a wizard was at work. Fear eventually made them choose
to back off.
The news about the clashing boulders spread like wildfire. To this day it is believed that
an earthquake happens throughout the mountains of rizal each time bernardo struggles to
break free from the clashing boulders.
