Basic 2-Work in A Team Environment
You may already have some or most of the knowledge and skills covered
in this module because you have:
A Trainee Record Book (TRB) is given to you to record important dates, jobs
undertaken and other workplace events that will assist you in providing
further details to your trainer/assessor. A Record of Achievement/Progress
Chart is also provided to your trainer to complete/accomplish once you have
completed the module. This will show your own progress.
Work through all the information sheets and complete the activities in
each section. Do what is asked in the INSTRUCTIONAL SHEETS and
complete the SELF-CHECK. Suggested references are included to
supplement the materials provided in this module.
Most probably, your trainer will also be your supervisor or manager.
He/she is there to support you and show you the correct way to do things.
Ask for help.
Your trainer will tell you about the important things you need to
consider when you are completing activities and it is important that you
listen and take notes.
Talk to more experienced workmates and ask for their guidance.
Use the self-check questions at the end of each section to test your
own progress.
When you are ready, ask your trainer to watch you perform the
activities outlined in the module.
As you work through the activities, ask for written feedback on your
progress. Your trainer gives feedback/pre-assessment reports for this
reason. When you have successfully completed each element or learning
outcome, ask your trainer to mark on the reports that you are ready for
assessment.
When you have completed this module and feel confident that you
have had sufficient practice, your trainer will schedule you for the
institutional assessment. The result of your assessment/evaluation will be
recorded in your COMPETENCY ACHIEVEMENT RECORD.
MODULE DESCRIPTOR:
This unit covers the skills, knowledge and attitudes to identify role and
responsibility as a member of a team.
LEARNING OUTCOME:
At the of this module you MUST be able to:

LO4. Work effectively with colleagues.
LO5. Work in socially diverse environment.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. The role and objective of the team is identified from available sources of
information.
2. Team parameters, reporting relationships and responsibilities external
sources
3. Individual role and responsibilities within the team environment are
identified
4. Roles and responsibility of other team members are identified and recognized
5. Reporting relationships within team and external to team are identified
6. Effective and appropriate forms of communications used and interactions
undertaken with team members who contribute to known team activities
and objectives.
7. Effective and appropriate contributions made to complement team activities
and objectives, based on individual skills and competencies and workplace
context.
8. Observed protocols in reporting using standard operating procedures
9. Contribute to the development of team work plans based on an
understanding of team’s role and objectives and individual competencies of
the members.
10. Information is communicated clearly and in concise manner using
appropriate communication techniques
11.Relationships are established and maintained effectively
with colleagues.
12.Work activities are performed within the team to ensure achievement of team
goals.
13.Customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds are communicated
with, in all verbal and non-verbal forms

Team Leader
has ultimate responsibility for deciding the degree
to w/c autonomy of the team member has to be
constrained. He has to exercise his responsibility in a
way that it does not erode the commitment of the team
members.
With real teamwork we tend to see positive attitudes and behavior such as:
Trust in colleagues to deliver what they promise
Willingness to help when needed
Sharing of a common vision of the future
Co-operation and blending of each other’s strengths
Positive attitudes, providing support and encouragement
Steps
1. Avoid trying to be the team leader.
2. Take turns.
3. Use "we" language.
4. Contribute positive feedback
5. Take time to get to know each of your team mates.
6. Discuss more than argue.
7. Accept the mistake and learn from it.
Caring- having concern to a person, help make the person life easier or less
painful.
Dependability- Perform delegate task and deep obligations and promises.
Considerate- respect the persons physical and emotional feelings, putting
yourself on their situation.
Cheerfulness- Full of good spirits; merry; always smiling; energy hyper,
greet and talk to people on a pleasant manner, do not be moody, bad
tempered or unhappy while at work.
Empathy- the action of understanding’ being aware of, being sensitive to,
putting yourself on the situation.
Trust Worthiness- employers will have confidence in you if you will keep
information confidential.
Respectfulness- showing respect to people, treat the person with respect
and dignity at all times.
Courtesy- address people by title and name ( respectful act ), always say
thank you and please.
Conscientiousness- be careful alert and exact in following instructions,
always give your best efforts.
Honesty- be truthful and accurate, adherence to the fact, fairness and
straight forwardness of conduct.
Cooperation- the action of cooperating, common effort associations of
person for common benefit, willingly work and help to others.
Enthusiasm- you like your doing, strong excitement of feeling be eager,
interested and exited about work.
Self Awareness- know your own feelings, strength and weakness you need
to understand yourself before you can understand others.
