Topic: The P-21 Skills of the 21st Century


Name: Revilloza, Aleli R.

A. Introduction:
In this topic, all the information about The P-21 skills of the 21 st Century will be
discussed. The purpose of this topic is to expand the knowledge about the P-21
skills. LIFE AND INNOVATION SKILLS, INFORMATION, MEDIA, AND
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS and LEARNING AND CAREER SKILLS.
will be tackled to inform the students. This report explores the framework and the
categories of P-21 skills.

B. Discussion:
To help practitioners integrate skill into the teaching of key academic subjects.
Partnership has developed a unified, collective vision for learning known as the
Framework for 21st Century Learning. Additionally, it describes the skills, knowledge
and expertise of students must master to succeed in work and life; blend content
knowledge, specific skills, expertise and literacies.
This skill had been categorized in 3 categories namely LIFE AND INNOVATION
SKILLS, INFORMATION, MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS and LEARNING
AND CAREER SKILLS.
In the first category which is the Life and Innovation skills. Learning and
innovation skills increasingly are being recognized as those that separate students
who are prepared for a more and more complex life and work environment in the
21st century, and those who are not. A focus on creativity, critical thinking,
communication, and collaboration is essential to prepare students for the future.
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION it means to create new and worthwhile ideas and
develop, implement and communicate new ideas to others effectively. Implement
Innovations means act on creative ideas to make tangible and useful contribution t0
the field in which the innovation will occur.
CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING it means a student should reason
effectively, use system thinking, make judgements and decision and solve problems.
COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION in communicating a person should
articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written, and nonverbal
communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts. Collaborate with others,
demonstrate ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse teams.
The second category is the INFORMATION, MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS,
people in the 21st century live in technology and media-driven environment. Effective
citizens and workers of the 21st century must be able to exhibit a range of functional
and critical thinking skills related to information, media, and technology.
INFROMATION LITERACY, access and evaluate information, use information
accurately and creativity for the issue or problem at hand, manage the flow of
information from a wide variety of sources.
MEDIA LITERACY, understand both how and why media messages are
constructed and for what purposes. Create media products, understand and utilize
the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics and conventions
INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION, AND TECHNOLOGY, use as a tool to
research, organize, evaluate and communicate information.
For the third and last category, the LIFE AND CAREER SKILS in today’s life and
work environment require far more than thinking skills and content knowledge. The
ability to navigate complex life and work environment in the globally competitive
information age requires students to pay rigorous attentions to developing adequate
and career skills.
FLEXIBILITY AND ADAPTIBILITY, it is the ability to adapt to varied roles, jobs
responsibilities, schedules and contexts. Be Flexible, incorporate feedback
effectively and understand, negotiate and balance diverse views and beliefs to reach
workable solutions, particularly in multi-cultural environments.
INITIATIVE AND SELF-DIRECTION, manage goals and time, work independently
and be self -directed learners.
SOCIAL AND CROSS-CULTURAL SKILLS, it is through interact effectively in
diverse teams and work effectively in diverse teams
LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY, through guiding and leading others by
means of using interpersonal and problem-solving skills to influence and guide
others toward a goal. Be responsible to others, act responsibly with the interests of
the larger community in mind

C. Summary: The focus on 21st century skills is to build understanding across and
among key subjects and to emphasize deep understanding rather than shallow
knowledge. It enables the student to engage in the real world data, tools and experts
they will encounter in college, on the job, and in life, students learn best when
actively engaged in solving meaningful problems. To sum up it all, the P-21 skills in
the 21st century includes the 3 Categories and it allows the learners to learn in
relevant to practice themselves for the future.
