Challenge
How to fulfill Line Integration?
→ Ready-to-use machine integration for OEM machine builders
→ Full support by SIMATIC IT Line Monitoring System (LMS) for the line operating authority
Solution
The answer is: Standardization
With the PDI (Plant Data Interface), Siemens offers machine manufacturers and end customers the
possibility to standardize the data interface between LMS (Line Monitoring System), LCU (Line Control
Unit) and the control system of an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in conformity with OMAC or
Weihenstephan. The PDI contains interface modules for integrating different automation systems into
the LMS. Based on the international standards of OMAC User Group and Weihenstephan Standards.
The PDI function blocks and the extension Line HMI for SIMATIC WinCC can be integrated easily into
existing applications. To extend the line visualization with OEE/KPI functionality the Line Monitoring
Library for SIMATIC IT LMS can be used.
Challenge
How to proof the Standardization?
→ No precise test available neither for OEM nor for system integrator / end customer
→ Qualification of machine interfaces necessary
Solution
The answer is: Machine Data Interface Test tool
With the help of this application, it is possible to determine the quality of a data interface based on the OMAC or Weihenstephan standard.
For this purpose all the PackTags used are checked according to their type and according to diverse criteria in an active test. This can
facilitate line integration and analysis.
In general, the definition and implementation of the PackTags (data points) of this interface
is carried out during the projecting phase. However, until now neither the OEM nor the
system integrator / end customer had the possibility to carry out a precise test and above all
documented review.
• Possible to determine the quality of a data interface based on the OMAC or WS
• Current test status of the PackTags can be checked all the time, to evaluate which tags
are still open for test
• All the messages and value changes of the PackTags are archived in CSV files and
remain available for a later detailed diagnosis
• Summary of each test in HTML report file

Requirements
• TIA Portal WinCC Advanced V16 or higher installed
• Current version of the Openness Scripter installd (FAQ 109742322)
• Microsoft Excel installed
• TIA project upgraded if TIA Version >V16
Configuration
1. Open Excel tool
2. Configure the general settings (specification, HMI address, subnet, TIA project)
3. Add unit(s)
4. Configure the unit settings (controller type, connection properties, description)
5. Configure the used PackTags of the data interface
6. Configure the Modes & States (available modes, states inside the modes)
7. Update the TIA project
8. Assign PLC variables to a variable archive (if necessary)
9. Adapt device type and/or firmware of the HMI and compile the HMI object (if necessary)
10. Download to device or start simulation
Configuration The used unit(s) and the data interface(s) must first be configured with the help of the Excel tool.
Update and start TIA Project Apply the configuration and activate the desired PackTags for archiving. Then start the PC simulation or transfer the project to a Comfort Panel.
Start of test. A continuous check of the PackTags used takes place, and the optional archiving of value changes is possible.
Start of test
Operator must operate the system in such a way, that value changes can be recorded of all used PackTags. Be in mind that the PackTag status for “Mode”
and “State” are each made up from several individual states. The current test status is displayed in a status table and graphically in color in a pop-up
display so that it is possible to see which PackTags remain to be tested.
Check of
PackTags Pause Archiving and checking of PackTags is paused. In this phase it is also possible to end or abort the test.
An active test is ended without a report and without the archive file being secured. Only the final status of the PackTags is determined
Abort
and displayed.
End of test At the end of the test archiving is stopped and the final status of the PackTag is determined.
After the interface test is finished a report is generated and the archive files are saved.
Report and logging
Reports and archive files saved on the system, can be exported, for example to a connected USB drive.
