Responding to Madison Davis’s Discussion Thread – History of School Counseling Article.

Hello Madison, yes, the evolution of school counseling is extremely important especially in
these times when so much devastation manifests itself. I to am very thankful for the pioneers
listed like John Dewey in the 1920’s with his approach to cognitive development and the many
others such as, Carl Rodgers, who is called the “Father of Counseling” who developed theories
and identified approaches to help improve the cognitive behavior development of children and
adults.
We are all entering school counseling from different areas of life which makes counseling more
interesting. We all can share our experiences which will enrich our colleagues and help to
address the cognitive development needs of our students.
I appreciate how Lamble and Williamson’s research shows through the collaboration of the
parents, school administrators and community resources that today’s children can be saved.
Because of society conflicts and family and domestic disruptions Professional school counselors
can enable their students not to slip through the cracks of life and have good success. I feel that
there is a great need for Professional School counselors who are prepared to handle the 21st
century challenges.
