CASE STUDY: ON SELECTION

Introduction

The Human Resource Management (HRM) can be defined as “the function within an
organization that focuses on recruitment, management and setting the proper guidelines for
the people who work in the organization. Each organization is working towards their human
resources. It is very important to have the right people, at the right time and at the right place
or position. [1]

Background

Fil-AM Museum is planning to hire an administrative assistant to handle logistics and assist
in organizing the museum’s events mostly held outside the museum’s premises.

Findings

Fil-Am Museum is looking for personnel with a bachelor’s degree preferably in history,
humanity or business course who have experience in events management and office
work/retail. He/She needs to be a good communicator, has good time management skills,
and good attention to detail. He/She should be willing to work outside Metro Manila and is
ready to render work overtime if needed. There are three candidates and yet The HR
Manager is considering choosing between two candidates who have already undergone the
pre-employment tests and a series of interviews.

Conclusion

I assume that Fil-Am Museum Company is a well-established organization and has a lot of
clientele from various places. It can train its newly recruited personnel during the event
hosting and can retain its workforce by providing benefits and incentives. Among the three
candidates, Jenny who is candidate no. 2 is the strategic hire. Susan (candidate no.1) though
she is qualified for the job might not be able to render overtime in case there is a need for it,
due to the fact that she will have to attend to her 2 kids not to mention that she will have to
make time to study for her MBA course. Frankie (candidate no. 3) though he is talented and
very skillful has a work attitude problem, especially in time management skills. Being late in
one of the interviews during the recruitment process is not a good way to start. Jenny may
not have enough experience for the job, but the test will prove that she will learn quickly and
easily. In addition, she has a sister in the company who is being promoted. That is a plus
point for her.
